Are we going to have a bracket competition for the NCAA Basketball Tournament?

I'm guessing not, with Smitty not being around anymore it may be a bit too much for SC and his schedule.

I don't have anything ready to host one here, but maybe we can use ESPN or another site to track the picks this year and I can award some e-creds to the winners.

How do these things usually work any way?  Since you pick all of the games up front, what happens if one of your teams doesn't make it to round 2?  Do you automatically "miss" the round 2 game since you don't even have the correct 2 teams in the game?  How do you determine who wins the contest?

You got it, SC. But points are awarded per correct pick, a correct picks value increases as tourney goes to later rounds.

CBS has a good bracket challenge. Someone needs to sign up. They get a password and group name. Then they share the password/group name with our forum for those that wish to sign up. Other than setting up the bracket with a group name there is no other responsibility for the group mgr. But sometimes these things reveal more personal info than you wish to make public on the forum. It depends on whether or not you have a existing profile or history with ESPN or CBS now.

Normally the brackets are done on a points system.  The person with the most points wins.  Tie Break is the score in the championship game.  One point for picking the first game correctly, two points for picking the winner of the second game, etc.  If you pick wrong up front, then you lose points for those later games too because you don't have the winner picked.  The existing bracket games use this methodology, although some use different point systems.

I did a bracket but for some reason have been unable to join the CRS Group.  I don't know if it is because I have an existing account which was part of the Tidesports group, or if I need an invitation, but joining doesn't seem to be working.

I had to do the same thing as editing did not work. It did not give me an option of joining a group. It simply asked me for my password and I typed in CRSBAMA. It shows me as being in a group called Mayhem.

Anybody know what the group abbreviation is?

Pretty sure if you find Greg Doyle you find our problem. I've been downright medievil with him and his neighbors. Hence the mayhem crap on our group name. BTW, I can still log in and can also send you an invite with a email address!

It is normal that these investigations take a little over 3 weeks. In most cases if you win the bracket your azz get DQ'ed. Of course it is all up to the Commissioner.

It seems to be inadvertent and so I rule that 2S must NOW designate his eligible bracket. He is 7-0 on both. This Commissioner, unlike Mike Slive, rewards winning.

To update the pick'em contest several people are leading with 13/16, and the low was 11/16 so everyone is still in it.

He has Kentucky losing to UNC in finals. Perhaps due to him losing KY in '08 and winning NC? I haven't gone through it pick by pick but I'll bet campaign strategists were involved in filling out his brackets.

Keep in mind Commissioner WV let you off the hook but you are still on probation. So don't get too mouthy.

CAT has gone to a lot of trouble driving across country to get the homemade talk of the town. It'll melt in your chubby mouth. This bracket battle is on and we all expect a little bantering, but you must understand our lack of tolerance concerning green fruit on our 1st place prize. I have 9/16 of the Sweet 16. The best I can do is advance 5/8 to the Elite 8.

All my hopes seem to be riding on Kansas. I have them losing to KY in the finals. Most people have UNC taking Kansas out so I need them to move on bad. I have lost Missou and Florida St that I had making it to the Final 4.

I went 0-4 yesterday. The experts said Syracuse would not go far when their big man got sat down so I changed my bracket. I should know better than to take advice from talk radio.

I just gave you an e cred. I'm not sure why. I have 57 points and don't think I am doing very well. With your 56 and my 57 points either of us could come in DFL real easy.

No one had Louisville so no change after the first game. Several people have Syracuse in the 2nd game and CB has Ohio St. I don't have any teams alive today.  :(

Tomorrow is my day. I have Kentucky and Kansas advancing to the finals. Everyone (almost) has Kentucky but all my hopes are riding with the Jayhawks.

I got OSU in, now need UK and UNC to win. Its going to be tough for UK, but I think UNC has a much tougher road to hoe with the injuries and playing Kansas on top of that.

Unless I am overlooking something I am the only person with two teams still alive. I need Kansas to beat Ohio St and reach the finals to overtake CB.

You have two teams made it to the final four. You only have one team left that can earn you points. You hace UNC beating Ohio St. You still have Kentucky alive. I picked Kansas to play Kentucky in the finals so I still have two teams alive (teams that can earn points).

Gee CB, normally you have to explain this stuff to the guys at the bottom of the standing. You are winning for crying out loud.

Despite losing my champion in the first round I somehow managed to be in second place heading into the final four.  Since almost everyone picked Kentucky to win the thing I still may end up in last place if Kentucky beats Louisville.  Every March I'm reminded why I would never bet on sports even if I didn't have moral reservations.

Using the ESPN scoring system my CRS bracket picks would have a score of 1150 compared to your 1000. Having picked the two teams that made it to the finals is worth a lot of points.

It sounds like the ESPN scoring system is pretty interesting.  Do we want to do something similar when we build our own?

They are actually all the same. The CBS bracket we used for CRS awarded 1 point for round 1, then doubled each round (2, 4, 8, 16, 32). ESPN started with 10 points for round 1 and doubled each round (20, 40, 80, 160, 320).

Wow, I got off the bottom! Good 3rd place finish, WV.

Initially you have to enter 64+ teams and their seeding. Then update on every round. The scores and math for each entry x each round.  Probably best to find one for free and have everyone paypal $25 or wager 25 e-creds for kicks.

I think getting two of the four Final Four teams was the best I have done in a number of years. George Mason, Butler, and VCU kept screwing me up, and this year Kansas and (unbelievably) Norfolk State kept me from having all four.

Everyone knows how difficult the Commissioners job is. Thats why they make the big bucks e-creds.

Take them with a clear conscience. Don't spend them all in one place.
