Releford sat on the court thinking he'd been fouled, but the call never came.

"I didn't think it was a foul at all," Jones said. "I'm left-handed and I got in his shooting pocket on his right side and got the ball. Anybody would want to sell that shot. Anybody who is trying to get the last shot off -- if it's not perfect -- they're going to try to sell it. So you saw a good act."

Releford disagreed.

"I felt like I got hit, but at the end of the day it's the ref's call," Releford said. "And you've just got to live with it."
Look at the photo (other thread); not a block.

The Greensboro refs were scared to let Bama have a shot at UNC?

I had to work and was on the road during the game. I think I'm glad I didn't watch it. It may have induced me to make a projectile out of the remote.

We all need to face facts, the refs are NOT going to call a foul on a last second shot in any game unless it is so grotesquely obvious a blind man can see it. In a way, I can't blame them.

I saw Releford on the floor at the end of the game so I assumed he was fouled. They replayed it and the announcer (Clark Kellogg I think) make the comment that it was a clean play. It looked to me like Releford fell down hoping to get a call. IMO there was nothing there that justified a foul call, especially on the last play of the game.

You can't blame a loss on one play in a basketball game, any more than you can in football.  I did feel that the calls were going Creighton's way, especially in the second half.

But Bama had an 11 point lead in the second half and could not finish the game.  That's why they lost.

When the calls started going the other way, maybe that's why the 11 point lead didn't last. You can blame a loss on the last play if that play would have won it for you. There's another thread on here with a very clear photo of the defender hitting Releford on his shooting arm. I can promise you, had the teams been reversed as to who was shooting, Creighton would have gone to the free throw line. It's been that way all year for Bama, but it's over now and we'll just have to wait for next year.

They let Creighton come out and play physical in the second half. Everytime contact was made on our end it was an offensive foul or a no call. A couple of the offensive foul calls changed the momentum of the game.

I agree Jamos, the refs were not good to us this whole year. We could not even get the calls at home.

Well we made steps this year. We got back to the big dance. Next year the 32 or even Sweet 16. Green will be gone so it is all CAG players then. Great year. RTR!

The two refs, on opposite ends of the court, were definitely calling the game differently.  That's one thing in need of improvement about this tournament, the men in black and white.

I posted this thread because of what I heard on Sirius Radio.  I listened to the game while traveling (CH 91).  The announcers who called it were neutral and said 1) there was a clear foul, 2) said the ref raised his arm to signal a foul, 3) said the buzzer never sounded, because the clock was stopped when the foul was called, and 4) the announcers were dumbfounded when the refs ran off the court after calling the foul.

I don't know who the announcers were, but they said it was a major screwup by the refs.  When I saw the replay I couldn't tell it was clearly a foul.

We lost on free throws, nearly won on their missed free throws, and got beaten otherwise.  I don't want to be Texas and gripe about the loss; just thought there was more controversy than I've read since.  The announcers thought so too.

Bury it and bury the shovel.   :dunno:
