“Blake Sims had a little hip injury playing basketball or something during the break,” Saban said. “We try to get these guys not to play basketball, but they all think they can play in the NBA, so I guess we’ve just got to suffer the consequences for that.”

How would have liked to have been Blake Sims going to tell CNS that he was injured and HOW he was injured?

Must be fairly serious...Not only no contact for the spring, but he's missing drills while on crutches.

Well with every decision there is a price to be paid if it is wrong. Doghouse time I guess. Can you say a championship ring with playing? RTR!

I guess everyone expects these players to sit around with their thumb up their butts. CNS can't very well tell them not to play when he is the commissioner of the NBA ( Noon Time Basket Ball Assosiation. I for one would rather a kid play some basketball during spring break than attend parties at South Beach. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the players get involved in pick up basketball games. So yeah, law of averages says someone gets hurt. Like last year in 7 on 7's Dee Hart got injured. Maybe that was dumb.

Oh..and for those that don't know about CNS and the Noontime Basketball Association...and HIS basketball injury...

I would much rather have them playing basketball or 7 on 7 than sitting in front of an XBox playing Madden.

I would rather have them reading Shakespeare, reading history, studying math, chemistry, & biology than playing basketball.

If I played for CNS and he TOLD me not to be playing basketball, there's a real good chance I wouldn't be playing basketball. Sims had a chance to get some playing time this fall due to TR leaving, but him not getting any reps in spring practice may have minimized those chances. Hopefully it will work out for him.

With Yeldon coming in Blake may have a better shot at 3rd team QB than 3rd team RB.  :popcorn2:

I would rather them play xbox and not be injured when spring training starts.  It's not like they never get any physical exercise as if they were a bunch of 13 year old fat kids needing some fresh air.  lol

Out of all of the things they could be doing, basketball does not concern me too much though.

Orange Beach Fishing Report...

Quote
We went offshore and fished in 100-foot-deep water. We caught a scamp grouper, five keeper-size triggerfish, a good mess of white snapper and a bull redfish that weighed about 15 pounds. We caught and released about 38 snapper that averaged 8-pounds each, with the biggest snapper weighing about 18 pounds. We had a beautiful 75-degree day, and the fish were biting all day long. Spring Break fishing from mid-March until mid-April is some of the best fishing of the year, because the fish generally haven’t seen any hooks, lines or sinkers since the late fall. They’re hungry and eager to bite. On this trip, everyone had all the fishing he could stand. Especially Alabama Running Back Blake Sims.

Thanks for that report. I am taking my son-in-law-to-be deep sea fishing Wednesday. Red snapper, of course, will be the catch of the day (if, in fact they let us keep any). I only hope there aren't 35 others on the boat, to where we aren't spending all day catching everyone elses lines. Would love to catch some trigger fish also. Darn good eating. We will be going out about 25-30 miles south of Orange Beach and this early in the season, I don't think it will be that crowded and should be fun.

Yoy're welcome, and hope you bust 'em up!!! And yes that is an actual F/R put of Orange beach. And an upmto date one at that. Just thought I would use it to remind people there are a LOT of things that players could be doing, beside playing B-Ball, that could have much more severe implications than a hip injury.
Let me know how the trip goes!!!

Will do. I'm hoping for calm seas and cold beer! I'll let you know Thursday morning how we fared.

Yes they are. Good story about trigger fish. 5 or 6 years ago, I was deep sea fishing when one of the young kids on the boat got sea sick and just all of a sudden projectiled right where he was standing. The deck hand admonished the mother, like there was anything she could have done about as it happened without warning. Everybody was thinking about what an a**hole that deck hand was when someone caught a trigger fish. The deck hand was not careful when he removed it from the fisherman's line and the trigger fish bit the crap out of his finger, right through the glove. Brought a smile to everyone's face.  :D

LOL, we were in a Kingfish Tourney fishing out of PCB a few years ago. Since it was Kings, the order oft he day was slow trolling live bait. Two Baits up top, one down deep on a down rigger. We actually caught a Trigger while trolling! When we came in that evening to weigh in, there was a nice size little group gathered at the scale, so we threw the fish to the weigh master and let him use it to explain and demonstrate why it is called a Trigger Fish. Fun times. ( we also let them keep the fish, as all the fish weighed were used for the fish fry on the final night of the tourney.) I can't remember if it was the same Tourney that my wife caught the Black Fin Tuna, or not. But, we kept it...LOL.
