Title: Chipper Jones to retire following 2012 season
Post by: shady_d4 on March 22, 2012, 09:15:30 AM
He will be missed. He was a fixture for the Braves for a long long time. Probably the last time a player will stay with one franchise from draft to retirement.

It was time, but he will definitely be missed. It won't seem right to not see Chipper at 3rd next season. He has been an amazing player to watch, and my hat is off to him and all he has done for the Braves. I just really hope that he doesn't have a bad year this year to end his career.

I'll believe it when I see it. I wished he would of done it a years ago.

I know Chipper has been loyal to the Braves but his time is past I am afraid. Can you stay to long in your sport, I think so. I hope he has a good year but I can't see the play-offs in his future this year. RTR!

You can certainly stay too long and really tarnish your legacy.  Ryne Sandburg is a glaring example that pops into my head from baseball.

I hope Chipper has a really good year so he can go out on top, not as a washed-up has been. That has been the fate of almost every great baseball player. Mantle, Aaron, Mays, McCovey, Rose, Bob Gibson, Glavine, Steve Carlton, Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken, & many, many, more. I would love to see Chipper hit .300 with 18-25 homers & 90-110 RBI's to close out his career.

^^^This. He deserves it. Chipper is one of the few ball players that has lived up to his hype coming out of the minors. A lot of seats have been filled because of him. I would like nothing better than to see him go out on a healthy, productive year.

His stats have been on a decline since 2007. His batting average has dropped and his injuries have increased. He had a good run, it is time for him to move on and open up a roster spot for the next young gun coming along.

I agree, but he's been injured every year since 2007. I am happy he announced 2012 is his last year and I hope it's not another lost year due to some nagging injury.
