Title: Former assistant, Dude Hennessey died today
Post by: Terrie1959 on March 02, 2011, 08:03:41 PM
Dude Hennessey, a former assistant under legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, died today.

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/03/lawrence_dude_hennessy_has_die.html

“I was deeply saddened this morning to learn of the passing of Dude Hennessey,” said UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore. “Dude was more than just a fellow coach and administrator to me - he was a great friend in the truest sense.

“Dude means so much to so many of us, and we are devastated he is no longer with us. He not only was a great friend, but was a fine man and an excellent representative of the University and our football program.”

Hennessey coached at Alabama from 1960 to 1976.

That is so sad.  But this video will cheer you up, if you didn't know him personally.  They called him "doody".

"Coach Bryant loved me" -Dude.

Hey Terrie,

If you want to, I think we should move this thread to the Community Blog.  Your OP will show up on the front page.  Maybe edit it and throw the video on there too if you want so people can play it from the front page.  Just an idea.

I will let you if you don't mind.  I want to make sure you guys have the right permissions to do this in the future.  Of course we want to be very selective in what makes the front page, but I think Dude passing away is front page material.

I can come back and add the video link for you if you have trouble with that part.  I guess we need to figure out how to move a thread in this pacle too, I think this will be our first topic move.  I think it will leave a link behind in the old topic, but I'm not sure.

Let me know if you have any trouble.

It looks like Terrie is offline at the moment so I will go ahead and move this.  We are starting to get duplicates.

Well guys I lost one of the posts from the other topic during the merge.  But here is what it said:

SIAP but I didn't see it.  Coach Hennessey died today.  Here is a link to the al.com story:

I remember Coach H speaking at pep rallies.  He was a riot.  He was an imortant part of the staff in the 1960's glory years.  Definately an old school guy.  RIP Coach.

Sorry about that McBaman.  Have some e-cred for your troubles (+5).

I finally got around to reading the article.  I was surprised to see that Izzy has the same youtube video over there.  Was it there when the article was originally posted?
