Title: My day at Bryant Denny
Post by: Jamos on March 31, 2012, 05:39:21 PM
Usually when you go to a scrimmage you don't come away with anything as to how good is the team. Today it was different, you would have thought you were in fall practice because of how well this team has matured and become a well oiled machine. As CNS mixed and matched all the players on both offense and defense, you couldn't pick out those that may be playing well behind the starters. This is why Bama will be good year in and year out, because CNS trains his players as to all being equal if you really want to play.

Many players had their moments and AJ looked the starter that he is, but some of the younger ones had a good day as well. My goal today was to watch T J Yeldon run with the ball but after reading that he had injured his hand I figured he wouldn't practice. Well, I figured wrong, he was wearing a black jersey but he practiced as though nothing was wrong with him. He will put a lot of pressure on Lacey and Fowler to keep their spots ahead of him, he is truly a very gifted runner and athlete. Christion Jones was another that really impressed me, he can do so much in so many ways to help the offense and he will be one of their go to men. Cooper,Sunseri,Belue,Williams and Fulton are some more that you couldn't help but notice but there were many others. The #1 defense was the #1 defense, they are solid and there are quite a few competing for a starting spot. The defensive line looked very good and as I watched Jesse, you could see the maturity that he has gained as he made his rushes on the QB as well as plugging the middle of the line.

This team is well beyond spring training level and I expect them to come back in the fall looking even better. CNS was pleased with where they are right now but as he always says, you never get good enough. He mentioned players needing to get an attitude of what it takes to be a winner and he said there were quite a few of those on the team.

I asked him if Duron Carter will ever play for Bama and his immediate response was, that until Duron and a couple of other players don't learn to do what they are asked to do then they will never make the team and that goes for any others that might get that attitude. He also said that the two players that made such a scene on NSD about being misled by Alabama had already agreed to grayshirt prior to NSD. He also said that the two players may not be as happy with their decision to go elsewhere as they thought they would be.

Again, it was great to see where this team is today and I think back as to where it was when CNS arrived. All of us fans should be so thankful for the Sabans becoming part of our lives.

Roll Tide!!!

Thanks for the report Jamos.  The crystal football pump is primed.  The next several years may be the best we have ever had as Bama fans, and that is saying a whole lot.

Exactly. CNS was talking about upgrading the facilities at the University and said that many people questioned him as to why that is necessary because you already have everything. He said those people are the ones looking at the past 48 games and not the ones looking at the next 48 games.  He is so firm in his convictions to make these young men better men on and off the field.

J, what a great report. We've all wondered if Duron's situation was grades or something along that line. Apparently it's not and that is info we've all been wanting to know. It doesn't appear that we have any drop-off this year in talent and intensity and when CNS gives props like that, we have to be very encouraged. I look for AJ to be the leader and play maker extroardinaire on offense this year and I see Jesse being the leader on defense. Good times at the Capstone!!!

There is so much talent on that field but it's like CNS said, there are some players that want to be leaders but being a leader is not being a cheerleader. It's what you are doing on and off the field to make the team better that counts. Sims has a bad case of bursitis in his shoulder, CNS said not to worry about him in that he has been having a good spring. There's a pretty big drop off at QB after Sims.

Great report, thanks J.   #+

That's kinda what I figured about Duron Carter.  Asking Saban about Carter is kinda like when everyone was asking him about Jimmy Johns.  I don't think we ever see Carter on the field.  And that's not a bad thing.

When CNS was detailing the problem with some of the players not having a good winning attitude, he really emphsized that a lot of those players didn't have a good off season conditioning program. Bama has the 4th quarter and I think it is strictly on a volunteer basis, and we all understand what volunteer means, so there must be a few that doesn't participate in it and naturally that are behind the players that do when reporting back for school in August.

What types of facilities upgrades is he interested in?  I say give him 2 of everything he asks for.

CNS said," No, you don't HAVE to participate in the 4rth quarter program. And you don't HAVE to play either."
I think there were some who did not participate in the 4QP due to injury. CyKo being one of them. That may be an excused absence.
