Post by: pmull on April 21, 2012, 05:59:13 PM
The Alabama gymnastics team won its sixth national championship Saturday, and for the first time in program history, it has repeated as the national champion.

The Crimson Tide had to come from behind on its last event and scored a 49.5 on the balance beam. Florida went into the final rotation with a lead of 0.025 over Alabama but scored a 49.4 on the floor exercise.

The Tide finished with a score of 197.850. Florida finished second at 197.775. UCLA was third at 197.750.

This is so grrrreat!  So good the way these ladies are adding to the rich athletic tradition of Bama.  Definately should build a statue of CSP.  Six NCs!!  How many coaches in any sport have done that.  RTR!

Great victory for the ladies.  Great comeback for the team during the meet, and for senior Ashley Priess, who missed competing last year with ankle injuries but scored a 9.95 on the balance beam this year to clinch the championship.

Hate to agree with Scarbinsky but there needs to be a Sarah Patterson statue!  Ask Coach Saban how hard it is to repeat as National Champions!  Congratulatoins ladies and RTR!!!   #+

If I understand correctly, football and gymnastics are the only two sports that we have ever won a national championship in.  At least that is something I saw on twitter yesterday.  I don't know if that is true, but I can't think of anything to dispute it.

If it is true, then that means that CSP is the ONLY Bama coach to win a national championship who does not have a statue.

We should go ahead and build her one somewhere, maybe outside Coleman.

Besides, if we delay it will cause a big uproar (rightfully so) when we build one for CAG a little later.

:)
