Another good one.

In the 80s he'd have his driver bring him to the Flora-Bama two or three times times a month to shoot pool-- in the evenings and always in winter months, when most of the "crowd" were locals.  The local guys would kindasorta surround him so touristos/terrorists couldn't bug him. He'd talk a little football, there was no escaping that, but mostly he wanted to see what the local guys were up to and talked shrimping, women, or maybe what bands were in town. I was bouncer/doorman at the PinkPonyPub and told him about a Lafayette, LA (maybe Breaux Bridge) band called Andy and the Pacemakers.  He came up the beach from Ono Island one night that weekend, and hung out with the crowd of locals at the end of the bar.  I'll bet if I got a chance to remind him of all this, KS would remember me.

Kenny was a helluva player, but more than a bit of a "free spirit"...I am not sure he's not bi-polar.  CPBB gave him too many chances, chances he would not have given , and did not give, many other players with less talent and less issues.

Not a fan of KS.

I've always wondered whether Coach Bryant kept trying with KS because he realized if he gave up on him that'd be the end and KS would just go home to drink. Miranda Rights, Schmiranda Rights--- Stabler turned into a "pretty/kinda/sorta" good citizen and touched a lot of lives positively.

Kenny was always a generous and friendly guy.  Sure, he took longer than some to grow up.  But he realized what a special relationship he had with Coach Bryant. 

The Ono Island days, The End Zone, all those 1970s years faded into memory.  He's been a good ambassador for Alabama.

Kenny taught me the "cotton eyed joe" dance which I have never forgave him for ....
other than the chicks dug it and when I went to Texas the skills came in handy ...

In the late 70's you had a chance of seeing Kenny if you when to the Pink Pony Pub. The original Pink Pony before Fredrick hit. The easiest place to find him was the Gulf Gate Lodge on Sunday. The only place in Gulf Shores to sell beer on Sunday. Of course you had to pay $1 for a membership fee to the private club.

Good times.

Pete Blaylock (barner) and Wally Barker (Tider) had the best prime rib I ever tasted on Sundays!

Also Kenny used to cut over from Ono Island to a couple of bars on the intercoastal (the back way to Orange Beach). Often KS was out on Sunday night because, as I said earlier, he was dodging the tourists and they packed up to leave on Sundays.

^^^ Wally Barker died of brain cancer around this time last year, in B'Ham.  :(  I was looking ahead and asking him what he used to baste/season the prime rib, but to my knowledge he took it to his grave.  Roll Tide to Big Wally,  anyway!

Nope. But I have a close friend that is in with that gang, if you are trying to get in touch with someone. He also watches the Tide play (at least a couple games), with Rose and her crew.  Isn't Kenny in Cali now?

the wife's older sister was good friends with Rose back in the day

since we moved out here to west , way west Mobile
we don't see many folks anymore ...

car , Kenny would leave his car car at the Riggins so they could
be incognito ... Kenny had a Vette back then I think it was ...
