Most games at Sanford Stadium are sellouts, but there has been an attendance problem over the years among one key group: Students.

The number of student tickets for each game, according to UGA, is 18,026. But Georgia officials estimate there are a few thousand no-shows each game.

So where are they? Some of the reason given for students not turning out is early kickoffs, where students are often still imbibing by the time the game rolls around. But that doesn't account for later games, and officials say the turnout issue has been consistent.

During Thursday's meeting of the UGA athletic board, school president Michael Adams seemed exasperated by the perceived problem. Adams said that measures were taken three years ago, but "the students have not held up their end of the bargain." ...
    Maybe if the team would win, they'd show up.

Exactly. Winning is the key but Bama has a lot of no shows, or they leave early in the game, for the lesser games. CNS has made a statement about this in the past.

I know.  Once my date started throwing up during a Tennessee game.  She was miserable and had to go to the hospital.  I just moved over a seat away from the mess.  :eyeroll:

I'm not buying into their initial reasoning,--that kids have tickets and aren't drunk enough to bother. Or they get tickets and forget to go. Or the game is too early or is on TV. There are others that want those tickets and I find it hard to believe one is wasted. I would think it more likely the ticket would be scalped to turn a small profit for beer money.

Maybe they are moving up, into the general seating before kick off. Maybe they only got the tickets in order to scalp, then got too lazy to get dressed up a little and go to the stadium to sell them. Something else is up in Athens. IDK.

Projection.  You can't attribute Alabama enthusiasm on UGA students.  They probably just stayed home.  :eyeroll: :eyeroll: :eyeroll:

But you're likely correct (sir) about ticket scalping.  I remember, back in the 60s, students getting their sorority-babe types to buy them extra tickets for B'ham games; those were scalped at the game.

It's got to be the male students. Why would they want to sit in an area where the girls admit they are dawgs?

I think there are several legitimate reasons why student attendance could be off at Georgia or Alabama.

1. 18,000 student tickets for a campus of 28,000 may be too high. Not every student, especially girls, are fans.

2. Money. Most students are working at least one part-time job and some work 2 or 3 to make ends meet. Saturday is a prime day to work part-time for a student. Money is tight for most students, so they have to be careful how they spend their money. I don't see them wasting money for Arkansas State, Georgia State, etc.

3.  I'm sure many of the sudents are studying for classes such as physics, medicine, biology, chemistry, physical education, criminal justice, art history, etc.

Actually, I was being a smart-aleck when I included physcial education, criminal justice, and art history with the more geeky hard subjects like physics & chemistry.

BTW, just noticed that they guy to the far left is flippin' the bird.  Does AP know?

I saw it after you mentioned it but I was fixed on the girl in the
white ball cap , she doesn't have any legs ...

how did she get  there ? some of those other students carry her ?
if so , it kind of trashes the theory on no shows don't ya' think ?

I mean , if they are carrying the ones without legs to the games
what in the heck does this administration want ?

I remember that girl's Dad was never mad if a date brought her home late-- because at least he didn't leave her hanging in that tree!
