Post by: rueben on June 03, 2012, 10:59:42 AM Did you know that it is (highly) illegal to feed dolphins in the wild? It's because they get used to the handouts and will not forge for themselves. And they will actually teach their young to swim up to boats to beg for food. Hmmmmm, I guess they are a lot like humans after all.

Post by: XBAMA on June 03, 2012, 10:41:51 PM Dude! Seriously! You need to take me out fishing...soon! Nalt , do you know those red snaps are on the endangered spices list ? according to NMF anyways .... (fire roy crabtree !) there are very few of them in the Gulf nowadays :hugeeyeroll: those were so hard to find , looked every bit of 45 seconds to find them ! they are only going to let us fish for them for about 30 days this year the plan is to catch as many a possible before they eat every other fish in the Gulf  which by the way they have started doing to the 10th degree :dunno: come on down and get ya' some ! well get two a day because that's all they let us keep ... cost wise I believe it figures about 100 bucks a fish if you add the fuel cost in for my friends 31 ft. Contender LoL  Title: Re: Do I know you? Post by: N.AL-Tider on June 04, 2012, 06:24:21 AM Nalt , do you know those red snaps are on the endangered spices list ? Yeah, I knew they were on a list. However, I didn't think it was the "endangered" list, I thought they were on the "threatened" list. Still not sure why anyone would want to threaten a fish but ok. Wife and I are in the planning stages for a vacation and I'm hoping for a trip to the coast. We usually do go to the Pensacola area and if we do that again this time then I might hollar at you and see if we can wet a hook... ;)according to NMF anyways .... Title: Re: Do I know you? Post by: rueben on June 04, 2012, 10:35:24 AM Great job on the R.S.! HAte I didn't make it out opeeing day. looks like a Smoker King too! Did you get him free lining?
And I agree about the Snapper Regs. Absolutely asinine!!! 40 day season this year. Triggers, and Mingo's are almost impossible to find. We all know it's because the RS's are eating them up. But hey let's shorten the season on R.S. and impose a Trigger Fish season to protect them too. Hey Roy, it ain't the humans causing the disappearance it's the Triggers you dumb ass!!! It has been proven over and over again that NMFS is using junk science. They need to listen to ppl who know what they are talking about. People like Dr. Bob Shipp. I used to cooperate wit the little dock side surveys put on by FWC and NMFS. The last time they approached to " ask just a few questions" I went off 'em to the point I was attracting a crowd. Title: Re: Do I know you? I would say its like fishing in a stocked pond, but a stocked pond is not that easy  Nalt I was kidding about the endangered list , a jab at Dr. roy crabazz really ... and Ruben , I sat down with Dr. Shipp awhile back and had a few beers that guy will lay it down , to bad the roy crabazz's of the world are to stupid to listen to him .... :wall: Title: Re: Do I know you? Title: Re: Do I know you? Post by: BAMAWV on June 04, 2012, 11:33:50 PM The maps shown indicating oilfield structures in the gulf may be misleading to some. I am not a "production" guy but I know what you see on the surface in the form of production platforms (what is left after drilling rig is gone) or satellite wells is not at all what you will see in the GOM bottom or floor. Once you get offshore any distance at all the structures you see on the surface encase all the production mechanisms, production maintenance (for instance removing any gases or seawater from the oil and natural gas), and may all include living quarters for production personnel. This is all visible from your boat. What anchors this to the seafloor are the casings of each and every well drilled, along with any seafloor well control instuments. These subsea controls are what you were looking at when the ROVs (robotic tools and cameras) were filming the bottom of the Deepwater Horizon, for instance. How much casing depends on how many wells were drilled. For the last 40-50 years, most well sites had 24 slots (or wells) at each location. Then you would also have the "Christmas Trees" with valves for shutting in the borehole from the ocean floor. So what you see on the bottom wouldn't have near the surface area (for algae growth) as the "chicken coops" shown in the above video.

I pretty well keep up with all of those politics regarding the sparceness (if that's really a word) of the RS. Title: Re: Do I know you?
