Title: "Was Robert Lester Under Productive in 2011?"

Quote
Yahoo Sports has a list of players whose production slipped from 2010 to 2011 and who are looking for a rebound in 2012.  Alabama’s Robert Lester makes the list:

    Alabama FS Robert Lester
The key stats: 52 tackles, 8 interceptions, 4 pass breakups in 2010; 39 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 pass breakups in 2011
Buzz: Lester is one of the best free safeties in the nation, but he wasn’t nearly as productive last season as he was in 2010, which was his first season as the starter. He will be the lone returning starter in the secondary this fall, and it would help the Tide’s cause if he can increase his production...

Lester was very productive IMO. Lester had a great 2010 because every team went his way to avoid Barron on the other side. Last year we were solid everywhere in the secondary and LB's. Very few balls were thrown deep. Because of Lester and Barron our corners were able to sit on short routes and close quickly on screens. You can only be aggressive as a corner if you know you have help behind you.

Lester will be one of our top defenders this year. We need him to step up and be a vocal leader of this years team.

^^This. I think Lester and Jesse will be the leaders on "D". AJ and Barrett will be our leaders on "O".

#+ pmull. I think you are Absolutely right. In 2010 he had injuries and young players around him. Last year, the injuries healed and young became veteran of the game. The play was made before he could get there. This will be a year he has a great time again. JMHO. RTR!

You may be right about Barrett Jones.

I don't know how anyone can claim one player was underproductive on a defense that was the best in the nation, and perhaps one of the best of all time.  Everyone was doing their job.  I'd much rather see LBs and the DL making all the plays -- when a team like LSU can't make it past the 50-yard-line, the safety probably isn't getting much action.

I agree will AJ and Jones as leaders on offense. I think Lester and Nico Johnson on defense. Jesse can lead by example but you need LB's and safety's calling plays and getting everybody in position because they can see everything. CJ Mosley should also step up this year.

All you guys previous comments are right on.  I'd like to see avg time-of-possession for 2010 vs. 2011, or number of opponents offensive plays.  I had a sense as the season went on that our offense was holding the ball longer which = fewer plays for opposing offenses, which affects stats like the ones used in this analysis.  But I may be way off.

I would be interested to know how many sacks the D had.  Also, how many time the ball was thrown short as opposed to downfield.
