You are playing three of the best locations. Do you know which course you are playing? Capitol Hill has three courses while the others have two courses plus a very good 18 hole par 3 course. The par three is a good way to finish the day if 18 holes is not enough. Have fun and hit'em straight. Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: BAMAWV on May 31, 2012, 06:12:52 PM BUMP
Anyone have some restaurant tips for HSC? Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: Jamos on May 31, 2012, 09:35:56 PM I can help a little when you play Oxmoor Valley. When you exit I65 onto Lakeshore Drive going to the course, there are quite a few good eating places on both sides of Lakeshore, including Hooters. ;) I'm assuming you were looking for something to eat before you play.
If you're looking for something after dark, go to highway 280. You can get there by traveling east on I459 from I65 and turning right onto 280, I'm guessing it's about 5 miles there. You can find about any kind of food that you care to eat there. The hotel that you are staying in should be able to give you a map to these places. I hope you enjoy your trip, Oxmoor Valley is a beautiful course. Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: 2Stater on May 31, 2012, 09:40:54 PM Hwy 82, the road you will take to "Capital Hill" in Prattville, has all kinds of restaurants, as well.
Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: XBAMA on May 31, 2012, 10:25:38 PM good luck on the golf game Coach
just in case ... might want a plan B on the dining deal :dunno: (http://img1.UploadScreenshot.com/images/main/5/15114123936.png) (http://www.UploadScreenshot.com/image/1046412/8875153) Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: pmull on June 01, 2012, 07:58:25 AM I can do game notes. Probably won't be pretty. Any of you guys have suggestions on where to eat in Auburn/Birmingham/Prattville? I could recommend some good places but they may be hard to find. All three locations have plenty of good restraurants nearby. You can not go wrong with Bob Baumhower's Wings. There is a Wings location right on Lakeshore Drive as you get off interstate 65 to go to Oxmoor Valley. They also have locations in Montgomery and Auburn but not near the course. I like the Legislator best. You will enjoy both courses at Auburn. If you ever get the chance you need to get to North Alabama and play the Shoals location. Fighting Joe and the School Master are two of my favorite courses on the trail. Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: hscoach on June 02, 2012, 10:55:11 AM We may have to try that the next year.
Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: pmull on June 02, 2012, 11:33:38 AM According to the schedule you posted above you are at each location only one day. Playing 36 holes a day three days in a row will be a lot of golf. You also have travel time in there. You are going to have a blast on this trip.
You said you played Capital Hill before so I assume you have played The Judge. If not, I will give you a tip. The view from from the No. 1 tee is awesome. My tip is the fairway is wider than it looks. Don't be imtimidated. We had to play the Judge twice last year, because the other courses were closed. Yea, we are playing 36 a day. The RTJ website has a deal for 3 days unlimited golf for $150 plus tax. You can pay for your carts when you sign up or at the course. Last year we paid at the course and only Capitol Hill charged us a cart fee.You said you played Capital Hill before so I assume you have played The Judge. If not, I will give you a tip. B'ham and Montgomery both have a Dreamland BBQ. The one in B'ham is located downtown near UAB. The Montgomery location is also downtown near the Riverwalk ballpark where the Biscuits play. Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: Chechem on July 11, 2012, 04:18:09 PM hsc, how was your golf trip? ... and where are the pics of the beer girl? Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: hscoach on July 11, 2012, 04:28:40 PM The trip was great and the courses kicked my butt. I have never lost so many golf balls in my life. I haven't been this frustrated with my game in a long while. The coaches that went with me liked Grand National the best with Capitol Hill a close second. I will say the beer girl at Capitol was a-one and we did take a picture with her. I think one of the guys ask her to marry him that day. All the people were nice and we are already talking about next year. I did take them to Golden Rule and they loved the food. One coach went on the trip the year before and understood what southern hospitality is and the new guy learned very quickly.

You are not the first you get your butt kicked on the RTJ Trail. Grand National is one of the best on the trail IMO once you get over the fact you are in Auburn. You need to try Greenville next year. It is the most overlooked on the trail but it is very good. It only has 27 holes. I mentioned the Shoals location several weeks ago. It is the best on the trail IMO. It may be difficult for you to work into a quick trip since it is up in the NW corner of the state and not very close to another location. Glden Rule has some good BBQ. It's a little different than you get in Texas. Every group of guys hit on the beer cart girl. It takes a real trooper to ask her to marry him. LOL Title: Re: Golf trip: Post by: Chechem on July 11, 2012, 05:09:10 PM (http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww228/tigerbuck48/8322055_2009831157101.jpg)
