Title: Alabama signee Tyler Hayes thrives with help from family in Thomasville
Post by: pmull on June 15, 2012, 08:46:31 AM
This is a great story about Alabama signee Tyler Hayes. It will remind yuou of the "Blind Side". This kid is an athlete. He played every football position, avg 18 pts - 10 rebounds in basketball and pitched for the baseball team.

This story is worth reading.

As a senior, Hayes did it all for the Tigers, finishing with 111 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 5 sacks. He ran for 603 yards on 83 carries and threw three touchdown passes as a fill-in quarterback when starter Tevin Watters injured his hand.

For good measure, he punted for a 40.2-yard average and scored touchdowns rushing, receiving, on a punt return, on a kickoff return and on an interception return.

His versatility means it's unclear exactly how he'll be used at Alabama. Most recruiting analysts project him as a linebacker, but he said he could also end up as an H-back. Thomasville head coach Jack Hankins has consistently identified Hayes as the Tigers' best blocker.

His size and high school production mirror that of former Alabama safety Mark Barron, who was a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Some have suggested that he'll end up as a safety in the Barron mold.

"I just want to play," Hayes said.

At 6-foot-3/215 lbs, he isn't quite as big as some of the LBs, but you never know how a kid is going to grow and develop once he gets into a college strength and conditioning program.  Especially at Alabama.  Saban wisely recruits athletes and finds their best fit -- like the article says, this kid could end up at safety or HBack.  Welcome to the Tide!
