166  Around Campus / Ferguson Student Center / Father's Day on: June 16, 2013, 01:55:57 PM
From Paula Priesse....

Quote
June 16th – Big government doesn’t like fatherhood. “The Life of Julia” was President Obama’s ad campaign last year advocating cradle to grave socialism for women. The expansion of welfare programs has seen out-of-wedlock births increase over 800% since 1960. And ever notice how lib Hollywood often portrays fathers and very rarely mothers as morons in films and on TV? Ads too. Their message is crystal clear, who needs fathers when government can be your daddy. Their message is 100% wrong. These stats come from the U.S. Dept. of Health, the CDC, the DOJ and others. Children from fatherless homes are: a) 5 times more likely to commit suicide b) 32 times more likely to run away c) 14 times more likely to commit rape d) 20 times more likely to develop behavioral problems e) 9 times more likely to drop out of high school f) 10 times more likely to become drug addicted & g) 20 times more likely to end up in prison There’s a reason why it’s called Father’s Day and not Sperm Donor’s Day. Fathers are and always will be important!

My Dad passed away on the Sunday before Father's Day in 1998 as result of complications from Lou Gehrig's Disease. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my Dad and miss him badly and remember the lessons about how to be a winner in life that he taught me and hundreds of other young men in his 32 years as a high school football coach head coach.

I pray that you are smiling down at me today "Coach Lou" and proud of what you see.  Pray

My second dose of Erbitux is in the books and I made it through the infusion okay.  I had a blinding headache the night following my first one but I have some good pain meds now in case that happens again tonight.  So far, the only lasting side effect is an acne like rash that showed up about 3 days ago that isn't very pretty but I can live with that...wasn't all that pretty to begin with...LOL!

Come on football season ~ Roll Tide!!!

The two-time defending BCS National Champion Crimson Tide was the only SEC football program and one of five Alabama sports to be recognized today with an NCAA Division I Public Recognition Award. These awards go to programs that had multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sport for the 2011-12 academic year.

Somebody needs to send a copy of this to Mr Gee to read when he "retires".
179  Around Campus / Reese Phifer Hall / Re: "Former Alabama QB Freddie Kitchens, now an Arizona Cardinals assistant, has heart surgery" on: June 05, 2013, 03:22:18 PM
I hope Freddie has speedy and full recovery.

Freddie was not the best QB to ever play for Alabama but he may be the toughest. I have never since a QB take as many hits as he did and get up everytime and never miss a play.
