This guy is giving the NCAA hell if they don't nail lying coaches Tressel and Pearl.

Just one eye?  So he can still see? That's terrible but he's lucky to be alive and that sounds like an almost full recovery.

Tough adjustment for someone 54 years old. I'm sure he's happy to be alive, but still a horible situation.

The Barn nation has been calling Finebaum today and they are upset.

I'm not worried about the kicking game, it's the kick coverage that makes me nervous.    Pray

18518  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Excellent Read About A Player on Coach Bryant's First Team in 1958 on: March 16, 2011, 12:34:23 PM
Thanks, great read!  I wonder how many of today's prima donna players would have made it through one of Coach Bryant's 1950's gut check practices? I'm guessing a pretty low percentage.

One of their mommies would have gone to practice and punched Coach Bryant in the nose for picking on their baby.

The photo of Finbaum in all that Bama gear really grates on their nerves. I know he did that on purpose just to get under their skin.

The article is actually written by a boog, which makes it even funnier.

Personally, I wish Alabama would play UAB in BB. I think it would be great for BB in the state and generate a lot of excitement.

18522  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Carolina Panthers Will Hold Pick, Select Cam Number One-Link on: March 16, 2011, 11:35:23 AM
This would be a huge gamble for Carolina. Cam Newton is a very chancy pick, and since Carolina has so many other needs they would be smart to go for a safer pick like Dareus or even Peterson. I still believe that Cam will be another Vince Young, AKA big bust.

Please refer back to my original post about Carolina management.   Wink
18523  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Did Anyone Know Andrew Steele Was Injured? on: March 16, 2011, 11:33:44 AM
I did not know this.  Wow, 4, the young man needs to hangup his hightops and focus on his degree and career outside roundball.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I think if he has one more, he will be gone. He's just too young to have so many, plus he is showing some severe symptoms.

Quote
The phone rang soon after Baxter Booth walked through the front door.

Just back from an Athens High School basketball game on a winter night in 1955, the talented end had already committed to sign a football scholarship with the University of Alabama.

But when Booth answered the phone, one of his teammates began urging him to reverse field.

“You need to talk to these Auburn people,” the friend insisted. “They’re gonna buy me a car!”

I hate to hear that.  4 concussions in the last few years is not good.

I've never heard of a BB player with 4 concussions and he's only about 21 years old. Wow!

My first concern, of course, is in making sure Andrew is able to recover without any permanent damage. My second concern is that this fourth concussion could have an effect on the rest of his career. I don't remember how many Troy Aikman had, but they were the reason he finally had to hang it up. I hope this doesn't happen to Andrew, not just because he plays for Bama, but I just would hate to see a young man's career cut short by something like this so early on.

The first well-known player to retire due to concussions was Roger Staubach, QB for the Cowboys. I think he had seven.
