This is from the Pocahontas Times located in Marlington which is pretty close to the Green Bank area. Obviously still a very difficult situation.
e-Edition delayed
COMMENTS (0) MAIL PRINT RSS By Drew Tanner Jul 05, 2012 Due to severely limited Internet connectivity in Marlinton as a result of Friday's massive wind and thunderstorm, the July 5 e-Edition of The Pocahontas Times will be delayed. Frontier internet service is still down throughout Pocahontas County. McClintic Library and the local cellular network are the only public data connections available in Marlinton at this time. Unfortunately, the upload speeds available on these two networks are insufficient to allow us to upload our pages to our e-Edition server. The Pocahontas Times hopes to have the e-Edition uploaded by Friday morning, July 6. We apologize for the inconvenience to our e-Edition subscribers.

My wife talked with her mom in Milton, WV. today. Still no power. Based on the fact that they are located in a more populated area, I hate to think how long BWV may have to wait. If that's not bad enough, there are reports that people are selling bags of ice for $75. They ought to be throat punched. ![Angry](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/angry.gif)

The impact here is we knew them as something other than plastic army men we move around on the desert game board. We need to remember that every one of them is a person with value, close human bonds to family and friends, and hopes for a long and fulfilling life. Every one is a tragic loss.
I know. That's why it hurts so much. Such a waste. ![Sad](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/sad.gif) Such a waste is right. We lost a good friend in Afghanistan 3yrs. ago to an IED in the green zone. He was a Lt. Colonel in the Army. Riding in the Humvee with him was Lt. who had recently graduated from West Point and a Staff Sgt. All had families back home. I didn't know the other two but my friend was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He is buried at Ft. Sam.

Okay, we're 2 days into this now, and no word from WV. You guys and gals all keep him (and the rest of the folks in that region) in your prayers. ![](http://www.umich.edu/~lowbrows/reflections/2008/mdeprest.30a.jpg) You'd think with this technology in his backyard he'd be able to send us a message. But I guess it only receives messages, and they have to be from the cosmos. As a FYI, no cell service in the area of these radio telescopes. Not sure if this is an issue or not for him. ![Thinking](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/think02.gif)

Alabama QB AJ McCarron going through the progressions, continues to develop on and off the field Click here for linkno guns or nothing in this one but still good stuff on AJ ![](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/clap.gif) Good post X, this is what I hope we will be reading about Bama players for a long time. It sure beats what we read out of Lee County. ![Wink](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/wink.gif) As different as night and day, eh J? Isn't it neat how most of these kids come to Bama and have a life changing experience under the tutleledge of CNS. Coach Saban reminds me more and more of Coach Bryant in this way.

My wife's family live in the Huntington, WV area. They have been w/o power since the storm. Her dad, who is in his late 70's and has lived in the area all his life told my wife that he has never seen such a storm as this in all his years.
They were told they may have power restored by the middle of the week.

Around Campus / The Quad / Re: BREAKING NEWS: "UNC football players flocked to suspect class"

Click here for link A summer class at UNC-Chapel Hill that lacked any instruction was enrolled exclusively with football players – and it landed on the school calendar just days before the semester started, university records show.
The records show that in the summer of 2011, 19 students enrolled in AFAM 280: Blacks in North Carolina, 18 of them players on the football team, the other a former player. They also show that academic advisers assigned to athletes helped the players enroll in the class, which is the subject of a criminal investigation.
The advisers also knew that there would be no instruction.
Other records show that football and basketball players made up a majority of the enrollments of nine particularly suspect classes in which the professors listed as instructors have denied involvement, and have claimed that signatures were forged on records related to them. ... Uh Oh! Not good at all. Academic fraud = loss of accreditation. ![Tinfoil Hat](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/tinfoil.gif) That's right not to mention severe NCAA sanctions if true. Talk about nuclear fallout. ![](http://www.crimsonredsports.com/Smileys/CRS/popcorn.gif)

Given all the money the athletic department (football) makes, why shouldn't there be a policy that ANY coach who wins a national championship gets a statue. Sure, it would maybe be a budget buster this year, but how often does this year happen? This is a real accomplishment and should be recognized!
Anyhow, ROLL TIDE!!!
it is what it is in football, but I am kind of old school and think that is something you do to honor them after they retire or even after they are dead and gone or what have you. I mean, how embarrassing is it if you honor them with something like that and then they do something horrible? Then you look like a jackass when you tear it down? For example, (not saying he would) but what if Saban did something terrible and had to be fired? Here we are with a statue up for the guy? Thats kind of my feeling on it. Right, Paterno's statue has been vandalized and they're talking about removing it. I understand your sentiments but we can't not honor them just because they might commit some kind of indiscretion in the future. In my humble opinion, they have earned the honor of having their image cast in bronze. And if they do something stupid in the future, we'll deal with it then.
