A conversation I saw on twitter:
Geoff Calkins @geoff_calkins New Pope will get a year or two honeymoon, but then he'll have to win.
Cecil Hurt @CecilHurt Benedict didn't leave him much.

SNOPES GOT SNOPED- WorldTruth.TV SNOPES IS RUN BY A MAN AND A WOMAN WITH NO BACKGROUND IN INVESTIGATION USING GOOGLE. Snopes.com has been considered the 'tell-all final word' on any comment, claim and email. Once negative article by them and people point and say, "See, I told you it wasn't true!" But what is Snopes? What are their methods and training that gives them the authority to decide what is true and what is not? For several years people have tried to find out who exactly was behind the website Snopes.com. Only recently did they get to the bottom of it. Are you ready for this? It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators scouring public records in Washington, no researchers studying historical stacks in libraries, no team of lawyers reaching a consensus on current caselaw. No, Snopes.com is just a mom-and-pop operation that was started by two people who have absolutely no formal background or experience in investigative research. David and Barbara Mikkelson in the San Fernando Valley of California started the website about 13 years ago. After a few years it began gaining popularity as people believed it to be unbiased and neutral. But over the past couple of years people started asking questions when Snopes was proven wrong in a number of their conclusions. There were also criticisms the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues, but rather asserting their beliefs in controversial issues. I know the picture was meant as a joke and it is pretty funny, but I will take this opportunity to rant a little. Studies like this annoy me. There is no possible way to correlate consumption of bacon to your lifespan. If you only ate bacon your whole life, and there were maybe 100 sets of identical twins where 1 ate bacon for every meal and 1 never ate bacon and everything else was the same, then you might be able to draw a conclusion. It could very well just be that people who smoke like bacon more than the average population, or any number of millions of other things. Maybe people who eat bacon don't like to exercise as often as people who don't eat bacon. I don't dispute that there may be a study out there somewhere that shows that people who eat bacon don't live as long, but that doesn't necessarily mean that bacon is the cause of the shorter life span. I remember 20 years ago they used to say eggs where bad for you. Now I think they are saying that eggs are good for you. What happened? Did our bodies "evolve" into efficient egg processing machines in 20 years? No, egg farmers got together and funded their own research. Too many so called scientists like to make huge leaps in logic to support the theory they are trying to prove. Yep. Folks that eat scads of bacon probably have other tendencies leading to poor health. Perhaps in such a hurry to eat the bacon they do not let it drain on paper towels. Walk in front of buses while daydreaming about more bacon. We should all meet up at Shoney's breakfast bar to discuss it further. BTW, if given a last meal,--crispy bacon and chocolate chip cookies (gallon of ice cold whole milk) would work. The study was funded by the Turkey Bacon Association of America. HTH.

I finally got around to watching Episode ! last night and I was really very disappointed. I felt that it covered too much time in history too fast and didn't give enough detail to develop the stories or the characters. If I hadn't already read the book a few times and didn't already know what was going on, I wouldn't have had a clue who was who and what was happening or why it was happening from what was presented. I should add that I'm usually disappointed by movies based on books when I've read the book first so maybe this was just another example of that experience for me. I'll record and try to watch the next episode...but I sure hope it's better than the first one.......... JMHO I liked what they covered, but I do agree the pace was too fast. They completely skipped over Jacob stealing his brother's blessing and Joseph being sold into slavery. Plus they started with Noah. But overall I am pleased that they are even doing a series like this. Yes, I agree with you on that SC...I too am glad to see a show like this in prime time. I would just like to see it spread out over a longer season rather than a mini-series so they could tell the whole story. A lot of the Bible is boring to me and I suppose they are trying to leave out the boring parts and just show the more sensational parts and that's fine...but...the way this was done seems to me to be more like a highlight reel with too much left out to fully understand and appreciate the highlights. It's sorta like reducing the whole SEC Championship Game to just Georgia's last offensive play and saying that's it, it was a great game and that one play is enough to cover it...yes it was a great game but that one play doesn't cover it. I think Bible (the book) "fans" like us can keep up with the show better than someone with very little previous exposure to the Bible. I'd just like for those people to understand the events better and perhaps become more interested in learning more. Maybe (hopefully) I'm wrong in my opinion and they will.
