Oats is a top tier coach that I am glad is leading our team. The quality of head coaches in the SEC has never been better. It is hard to say who the best coach is because it changes every year. I am glad Greg Byrne renewed Oats contract with a big increase and massive buyout. It appears he is committed to Bama and likes being here.

Who is Arkansas going to hire to replace Musselman? With the right hire Arkansas will be a dominate SEC contender.

Barners are not handling our tournament run well. Pearl's one Sweet 16 in 10 years is not looking so good with Bama having 3 out of the last 4 years. They thought they were going to go on a good run, and we would go out in the first round.

Arkansas has great BB fans and an excellent arena. With Bama & UK (and maybe UF) in the SEC it won't be easy for anyone to dominate the SEC. UK fans will sell their children to get a great coach at UK.

Remember, UNLV was undefeated in 1991 going into the championship game against Duke. They had played Duke in the championship game the year before and run them out of the building. The same was expected in the game but Duke won. Just one example of why the game is played to see who is the best.

Uh, no. He has to win a NC to be considered. I am anxious to see what UK & Calipari do next year. He's on a very warm (extra, extra warm) seat right now. Also, Bruce Pearl is still very competitive but he just hit 64 and has a limited number of years left but Coach K was around 74 when retired so Pearl could be around a while. Todd Golden at Florida is looking good right now.

Well, the Final Four starts this Saturday. Of course, we will be playing UCONN in the semifinals. UCONN is the college basketball equivalent of Alabama in football. UCONN is the defending National Champion and they have been awesome in the Tourney. They have blown out everyone & dominated them (like Bama football against LSU 2011 & Notre Dame 2012.

Here's what I think Tide has to do to beat UCONN:

1)  hit 13-14 3 pointers with a high percentage, like 13/28 (46%)
2)  shoot over 50-55% for the game
3)  rebound, especially offensive rebounds-need to get at least 10 offensive boards and at least 38-40 boards
4)  limit turnovers to 12 or less
5)  play great defense-this means play tough around the basket, interfere with passing lanes, and Griffin &
Stevenson, our 2 best defenders, have to outstanding
6)  Wrightsell will be back in the line-up Saturday, that's a huge plus
7)  Simply put, Sears, Griffin, Nelson, & Pringle need to have a solid game.
Cool  Limit our team fouls and hope Pringle stays out of foul trouble
9)  If we do all these things we might beat UCONN, they are that good.

BUMP!

Just wondering if anyone wants to create a March Madness bracket group for CRS for this year...

Pmull? SC? Marshall Dillion?  Anybody?

Would have loved to but I am computer idiot so I went to CBS brackets & did my own.

SEC definitely stinking the place up right now. I knew S. Carolina would lose since their non-conference schedule was a cupcake special. Watching Samford/Kansas and KU can't seem to miss a shot. Plus, their starters are huge compared to Samford. KU has a 7'2" center, 6'10" forward, & 6'9" guard. Samford has a 6'9" starter and next tallest is 6'6" and they have a 5'8" guard. it's getting a little out of hand right now, 36-22.

And another thing, who taught the NCAA Selection Committee geography? Brooklyn, Indianapolis, Omaha, and Pittsburgh are in the South? Charlotte is in the Midwest?

Well the Big Dance will start this week. The state of Alabama has 4 teams in the Tourney. They include Alabama, Samford, UAB, & Auburn. How did 3 of these teams end up playing in Washington State and the 4th team, Samford, ends up in Utah. What kind of crap is going on here? Somebody have a problem with our state?

Nate Oats signs contract extension with Alabama basketball, making him one of highest paid coaches.

Next game for Tide is coming up is with Florida. They have shot or defense up in 2 games even though we beat them in T-Town. Is Rylan Griffin able to play at 100%? He's our best defensive guy and he can hit 3's. We need a total team effort tonight and lots of energy.

11  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: SEC TOURNEY STARTS WEDNESDAY on: March 15, 2024, 02:44:57 PM
Miss State beat Tennessee like a drum winning easily 73-56. Held UT to 19 points in first half. Next is Auburn vs S. Carolina. I'm going with Auburn on this one. SC played the biggest cupcake non-conference schedule I have seen in a long time. Gave themselves 13 easy victories to start season. The SC Net ranking, which rates their schedule, their wins & losses, and other factors) is 48. The Tide NET is 8, because we played so many good teams like Purdue, Arizona, Creighton, Houston, and more.

I am giving Coach Oats a bye this year. He lost 4 starters from last year and ALL 3 of his assistants. Those are gigantic losses to overcome. Plus, the assistant hired to teach defense has been a bust and will be gone after the season (better be). I'm waiting to see who we get from the portal. We have to get some power guys, 6'8" to 6'11" to play tough around the basket. We have recruited a 6'10" power forward who weighs 200 pounds. Not my idea of a power guy. If he weighed 240 I would say that's what we need. Our recruiting class has 3 players who will be very good players, just don't see the bulk we need.

Tourney is in Nashville which is somewhat advantegous for Bama due to number of Tide fans in the area and not far from Alabama. The teams most likely to win the Tourney is Tennessee, Kentucky, or Auburn. The Tide just has too many weaknesses. The main weaknesses are: overall defense with little intensity, too much fouling, only 1 inside power guy (for rebounding, basket intimidation, & rim protection), and not being able to close out games against quality teams. We should have beaten Purdue, Tennessee in the 2nd game, & Creighton.

I'm not very hopeful of Bama's chances in the Big Dance, either. I don't think we will make the Sweet 16, we just can't play defense and we struggle against teams with a good defense. Sorry for the negative comments but reality is harsh. Hope I'm wrong.

14  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Crimson Tide headed the wrong way going into March Madness on: March 09, 2024, 07:40:12 PM
If they play in the SEC and NCAA tourneys like they played against UcheaT and UF then they will likely be going home early.

I doubt this team does much in either the SEC Tourney or the NCAA. They have no real presence under the basket & the defense is awful. Why does the Tide look tired, every team has played the same number of games. I don't understand why they would be tired.
