Quote
When the BCS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick announced that they had endorsed a seeded four-team playoff model for college football that would begin for the 2014 season, they did so with the idea that those four teams would be selected under the "best four" method. A committee will select the four teams by considering certain criteria such as conference championships and strength of schedule.

So it won't be just conference champs. It's like that hybrid model people were talking about it. Regardless, it's something that if passed by the BCS presidential oversight committee, which meets June 26 in Washington, D.C., will give the SEC even more power than it already has.

Now, the SEC is almost guaranteed a spot in the four-team playoff with its conference champ. Period. Now, getting No. 2 in will be a little more difficult but the past tells us it can happen. Remember, the wording is that conference champs will be considered, so it isn't a given that all four will be champs every year.

On the sidebar there are clicks to link you to the take, or viewpoint, for each conference. Every conference reads some advantage for them into what little we know about the new system. Truth be known the rest of the country will go along with anything at this point, just to get a little weight off the SEC boot crushing their throat.

We caught a huge break last year after "giving away" the regilar season LSU game. The stars had to align just right and they did. We deserved to be in the NCG game and I will not apolgize for it.

With that being said we can not expect to get in as the # 2 SEC team anytime soon. We need to win the SEC and remove all doubt. I like the 4 team playoff a lot. The SEC was going to get screwed sooner or later and not make it into the BCSCG in the old format. This is a start to what we really need which is a full blown playoff.

This may be under the beating the dead horse department but I say we were 1 bad (close) call from winning the Nov. game in regulation 27-6 (or so). Imagine ruling out the Tide due to a conf. champ. stipulation.  The obvious objective of making sure the 2 best teams in the country play in the NCG is being ignored in favor of the other conferences trying to rush into any kind of system to make their teams relevant again.  Call me a traditionalist but I am not willing to let the human polls go to the trash bin just because some rust belt football fan thinks the system is rigged because an asst. coach may have formulated CNS's picks prior to him submitting them.

They say head coaches are playing a game on Saturday instead of watching all the teams play. They say, and here is a big laugh out loud, that the voters have an obvious SEC bias. They say that their conf. champ has to be better than a second place SEC team. All fallacies that need to be addressed and argued one by one, long before we organize super conferences and establish a four team play off. Someone needs to tell these little cry babies to tighten up their transvaginal mesh and that in order to win national championships one must play both offense and DEFENSE. The current system is working fine, if getting the 2 best teams to play is still the objective.

I agree.  There are two main advantages in this system for the SEC:

1.  No getting kept out of the big game if SEC teams beat each other up and everyone has at least one loss.
2.  The possibility of placing two teams in the playoff in those years where the SEC has two great teams.

Being an SEC homer, I do believe that this system will keep the crystal trophy in SEC schools for years to come -- while USC, OK and OSU might look good against their conference opponents, I don't think they stack up to the SEC's best.
