Mike Slive uses a favorite talking point when bragging about the SEC. If the SEC were a nation at the 2008 Summer Olympics, it would have finished fourth in the world with 51 medals.

It's an impressive statistic that wows Slive's audiences. It's also outdated, especially with better analogies available to compare the SEC's dominance in the highest-profile college sports. John Wooden and UCLA will suffice.

There's a redundancy to this column every year. I'd stop writing it if the SEC stopped redefining our concept of dynasties.

College athletics has never witnessed a run like this by one conference in the most prestigious sports.

If South Carolina wins its third straight College World Series, the SEC would have 13 of 21 national titles in baseball, football and men's basketball since 2005-06. The scoreboard in those sports would read: SEC 13, Big 12 2, ACC 2, Pac-12 2, Big East 1, WAC 1, Big Ten 0..........

I really don't see the SEC easing up any on the National Championships either, this conference is loaded with the best coaches around in all of the sports.
