Herren delivers powerful message to Tide players

Chris Herren has taken his message of sobriety nationwide, but for all his traveling, his recent stop in Tuscaloosa felt a bit more like home.

“My family is from Alabama. My father’s family is from Ragland,” said the former NBA basketball player, who was chosen to speak to University of Alabama football players about the dangers of substance abuse. “My grandmother still lives there.”

Herren said he has been an Alabama fan since he was a child, even though he grew up in Fall River, Mass., where both his stardom and his troubles as a young athlete began. The subject of a recent ESPN “30 for 30” documentary titled “Unguarded”, Herren managed to become a second-round NBA Draft choice despite drug problems that followed him from his days as a player at Boston College, to Fresno State and finally to a brief NBA career.

This article pretty much describes the person that Nick Saban really is, he practices what he preaches to the players. CNS is constantly reminding the players and recruits that come to Bama to make good decisions in life because playing football is only a short term part of their life. He makes sure that ALL of his players are educated beyond the X's and O's of the football field to help them make the right decisions.

If I were a parent of one of the players at Bama, I would feel extremely good in that my son(s) was being taught the right things that only enhances their education after football is over.

  , how can a Parent want to send their child to another school? Alabama has it all, but of course if that kid ain't reparable, then CNS will see it. So not all gets to come to be taught by a person who cares about more than just football. Go CNS. RTR!
