Quote
The oddsmakers in Las Vegas are hoping to make bettors think long and hard about whether Alabama can repeat what it did at Arkansas when it faces Florida Atlantic on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Crimson Tide opened as high as 51-point favorites over the Owls, according to VegasInsider.com. At The Wynn Las Vegas, Alabama opened is a modest 48.5-point favorite...

Why so low??

Meaning that they regard FAU as being about as formidable an opponent as Arky was. Ouch!  Sucks to be Arky. By the way, this should be a great week for the meltdown thread.

My favorite part of Tuesday. Arky, the barn and I hope they include USCw this week.

I say the best bet in football is the Tide as an underdog. This is up there with Hawaii at home, Cornell as a dog against large spreads, Missouri as the dog, etc.
But the Tide as the favorite with a huge spread has historically been a poor choice. HTH

Alabama might get in the 50's again, but it won't be because we are trying to run up the score.  It will be because they are so pathetic that they can't stop our practice squad, even when they know we are going to hand the ball off for a simple run up the middle.  Did you see CNS "talking" to that backup QB (I forget which one) late in the game after he faked the handoff to Howell and then ran to the opposite side untouched for the TD?  I am sure he was imploring the young man to hand the ball to Howell next time.

I would bet that Bama dont win by 51 this weekend if I was a betting man.
Like said above, Bama does not normally score that high and so I would say it may be more of a 48 to 10 game or so. I hope for another shutout but being realistic, its hard to get three of those in a year much less a row.

I agree.  IF this game is on our list of "picks" this week, I'll take FAU + 51.

I just want to live long enough to get to the picks for the weekend. Points or not, what are my odds, 50-50. RTR!

FAU lost to Georgia by 36, but they are in that pesky Sunbelt Conference and have seen what some of their bretheren have done v. SEC teams, so they probably won't quit immediately.  But Bama's offense is a juggernaut this year, unlike in years past, and the second team is talented and hungry, so this might not be the best year to bet against the spread.

I wonder how many 2nd and 3rd stringers Georiga played might not have been many. I would have thought Georgia being #5 team in country could have won by bigger margin. RTR!

We have all seen it and are all waiting on it...UGA will flop soon...will it be USCe that takes them down? or maybe Tenn?  or UF, or all three.

Georgia had something like 713 yards of offense in 62 plays.

Hey HL I didn't know the total of yards for Georgia but that is a large amount against anyone. I wonder if Oklahoma State is doing these big scores hoping they will will look good on their Resume'? I almost think this might be the year Georgia doesn't flop. Even a blind squirrel gets an acorn every now and then. RTR!
