Weird story out of Clemson today.

Quote
Sunday, September 23rd

Clemson, SC

This week's Clemson Tiger post-game press conference featured a joint appearance by head coach Dabo Swinney and Clemson AD, Don Philips. In prepared remarks before Swinney took reporters questions, Philips put forth several proposals for changes to the format of college football games. Citing several statistical analyses Philips argued that longer games increased the chances of player injuries, and also took time away from the time that student-athletes could devote to academics. Philips went on to show that a statistical comparison of the results of this year's and last year's games shows that Clemson's winning percentage would have been 55% higher had all games been only three quarters long. Swinney and Philips also took on the practice of having to kick the ball away following a score. Here they argued that scoring should be rewarded by continued possession of the ball, citing pickup basketball games as evidence that this "winners" rule is popular among competitors. The two told reporters they would formally petition the ACC to consider shortening games to three quarters and to adopt the "winners" rule.  In response to reporter's questions Philips confided that their proposal received significant input and support from officials at Texas A&M University.

Actually I think Clemson would do better by asking for  30 min games.  Wink

This has to be a stupid, tongue-in-cheek joke. Maybe they consulted with John L. Smith.
