I think the barners know what is going on. The comparison I see them using is Chiz to Will Muschamp. Both were sucessful DC's at the barn and Texas before taking HC jobs.
Muschamp is in his third year as HC at Florida. He is bringing in good players and appears to be building his program in the style he wants at a steady but rapid pace. The UGA loss this weekend was a setback but still the UF program appears to be in good shape.
Chiz is in his 4th year at the barn. He has been able to sign approximately 100 recruits (25 per yr). He has lost 39 of those 100 to a number of reasons but the bottom line is they are not on the team. In four years he has lost 48 players if you add in Tuberville recruits who also left the team. That is why they are young. Add in the fact that the barn has had the worst 4 year stretch of defensive football in the program's history. Chiz is a defensive coach. The offense was pretty good with Malzahn in control. In fact, good enough to win a BCS Championship with Scam. Most barn fans are coming to realize that Malzahn was much more than the OC. He is the reason the barn was able to pull out 8 wins with bad teams in Chiz's 1st and 3rd years. Without Malzahn Chiz is totally lost.
If you go lurk around the barn message boards they realize they have a mess on their hands. They have no confidence in Chiz and less for Jay Jacobs their AD. Besides football their basketball and baseball programs are lower tier SEC programs. They know they need a new football coach but they are scared to death Jacobs will be the one making the hire. They now hate Pat Dye. They want him out of their program and off the Paul Finebaum radio show. He makes an azz out of himself and embarasses the barn every time he goes on that show. Barn President Gouge is another joke. Like JJ he is also a puppet of the BOT. They are so concerned about the incompetence of the administration that they fear no respectable established coach will be interested in the job.
The barn has a mess on their hands. Many, like me, believe they sold their sole to the devil for the championship of 2010. I don't know how they are going to crawl out of this mess or how long it will take. More importantly neither do the barners.
A very prominent barn alum came by our office last week. He told some good stories if you like barn stories. But he went off on chez-it. He said he was totally against his hiring from the start.
He said he was on the plane with Jacobs when he went to interview/hire chez-it. During the flight he asked Jacobs to turn the plane around. When the plane landed he pleaded with Jacobs, it’s not too late, turn the plane around.
There is certainly some infighting going on at the barn. The “good ole boyz” are stepping in what they’ve been selling and the alum are tired of it.
