Down two of its top veterans, Alabama still had more than enough players Tuesday to beat up Lamar.

With tempers flaring on the opposite bench, the Crimson Tide piled on the points in a dominant second half to roll to a 75-47 victory at Coleman Coliseum.

Quote
Lamar coach Pat Knight, son of legendary coach Bob Knight, let his temper get the best of him at the start of the second half. He picked up a technical foul after arguing a call at Lamar's offensive end and was promptly T'd up again after he angrily charged toward the officials. He was restrained by one of his assistants, but was ultimately escorted to the locker room.
Back in the day, if you're Bob Knight, maybe you could get away with this, at least for a time.  But these days, if you're not Bob Knight, and your team only has one win, your career will be short lived.

Thanks for the link Jamos, we were wondering about Releford.  Good to see Cooper back scoring.

"The Crimson Tide will be back in action Saturday, when it visits Cincinnati."

Game time is 2 p.m.   Sad

I guess I can catch the first 30 minutes...

It's pretty obvious what CAG's style of play has in store for us this year and the years to come, and it's very similar to the mentality of the football team. CNS wants the football team to consisteantly apply heavy pressure on their opponents and then go for the kill in the 4th quarter. The basketball team is no different.

In last nights game, it was so similar to every game they have played this year. The team looks so haphazard and disorganized when the game starts, but there is a good reason for that. I stated in an earlier thread after a watching a team scrimmage this season that the team practiced with a lot of intensity and it was very physical, well nothing has changed in the games that have been played so far this season. Bama's game plan is strictly to apply pressure, pressure, and more pressure and that is on both ends of the court. They are not giving their opponents a chance to get some air you might say either defensively or offensively and it is really showing in the second half of the game and paying big dividends. You could see the legs of the Lamar team starting to go away last night in the second half and Bama was scoring offensively and defensively and just blew the game away.

The amazing thing about this style of play is that Bama only has 10 scholarship players and for most of this season, at least 2 of them have sat out each game for injuries or an illness which means that only 8 players have been responsible for most their success this year. This is an amazing feat for them to have the conditioning and stamina that they have to play like this and it's all by design. I think the worst thing that can happen to Bama is when they run into a bunch of whistle happy refs because of the depth of the team.

I only wonder what it will be like for opposing teams when CAG has the luxury of having a full team of scholarship players in the years to come, but I really like what I am thinking. Roll Tide!! Wink

Lamar is not very good but that is not our fault. We sent them home with a 28 point loss and that is what you are supposed to do when you play an over matched opponent at home. Good win for the Tide.

O Retin played good in Releford's absence. He scored 13 pts, 2 assists and 2 turn overs in 27 minutes.

Somehow we must help all our guys healthy. We only have 10 scholarship players and we need them all healthy and ready to play.
