New SEC Coaches Face Big Challenges-Article

Interesting stuff.

On Tuesday the only two job openings in the SEC West were both filled when Auburn announced it had hired former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and Arkansas surprised everybody by hiring Wisconsin's Bret Bielema.

Both coaches will take over programs that have had plenty of success in the SEC the last few seasons but are coming off of rough 2012 campaigns.

But which coach will be the most successful in their new gig, and which school made the best decision? Well, it's hard to know for sure right now as both schools present their own unique advantages and problems

Looking at the entire SEC West coaches I would put Bielema fourth behind Saban, Miles and Sumlin. I would put Malzahn in a bottom three tie with Mullen and Freeze. I was impressed with Freeze this year. The barn has more resources than the Mississippi schools so that will help Malzahn. I am not sure but Mullen may have already peaked at Miss State. There are some very good coaches in the SEC.

I agree with you pmull except here. Freeze being a late time coach for Ole Miss did well recruiting. He will begin to get kids from surrounding states. Coach Mullen at Miss. State, I kinda agree. He is a big offensive coordinator with small time players. I don't think he draw enough attention to build what he wants to. My big question about Malzahn is, without that QB that got some money, cam newton, he a bomb at QB. Who will be his coaches that can challenge Alabama and others, not sure it will happen. RTR!
