Interesting.

Quote
Lou DeNeen, who spent six seasons as the UAB men's basketball strength and conditioning coach at UAB, is leaving to take the same position at the University of Alabama.

DeNeen's first day at Alabama was on Monday. He has been an instrumental part with the UAB men's basketball program under Mike Davis and Jerod Haase, leading the offseason workout program.]

What happened to the last guy? Did he leave or was he replaced?

We seem to be good on conditioning but all our players need to bulk up and add strength without losing their quickness. This guy has a good resume, I hope we see a difference on the court.

I was wondering the same thing and just thought I had missed the story.

 Huh?

You can add me to the list of wondering what happened to the last guy. I haven't seen anything in the Tuscaloosa News about it. Maybe he was the reason for some of the players leaving.

Basketball S&C differs greatly from the regimends of fooball S&C. Much of a basketball player's life is spent developing "touch" which can be disrupted or distroyed in a month with over zealous weight training.

Low amts of weight and increased reps seem to be the norm for hoops..
Often, summer training may focus more on upper body, while fall condiitioning concentrates on the legs/lower body. All conditioning centers around high cardios and the ability to go extended periods of time at full speed. Lots of wrist/ankle exercising. Also my personal favorite-- carrying fat guys piggy-back.

I wonder if the shape Nick Jacobs started last season in had anything to do with a new S&C coach. One of the few coaches that can work with players year round is the S&C. Jacobs started last year heavy and out of shape. He could only play a few minutes at a time. We were well into the SEC schedule before he even remotely looked ready to play.

Good observation, plus Gueye & Lacey seemed a little out of shape. You may be on to something.
