TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama softball team was awarded the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and can earn its way to the Women's College World Series without ever leaving home.
The Crimson Tide (46-8) learned Sunday night that it will host the Tuscaloosa Regional and will play Southwestern Athletic Conference champion Jackson State (26-20) in the first round, which opens later this week.
Memphis (35-12), an at-large pick from Conference-USA, will play Southern Conference champion Chattanooga (42-12) in the other first-round matchup at the double-elimination regional.
If the seeds hold, Alabama will host No. 15 seed Stanford in a best-of-three NCAA Super Regional the following week in Tuscaloosa. Stanford is hosting Nebraska, Fresno State and Pacific in its regional.
