Gotta be some changes in the coaching staff.  Some new blood who will bring some change to the way the team practices.  Some drills like... you gotta hit 5 free throws in a row before you can go home after practice.  Or you gotta make 5 threes and just keep shooting 'till you get your 5.  Just get the feeling this coaching staff doesn't demand enough in practice.

Something is definitely wrong when the same problems persist. How much do we practice rebounding, positioning, & blocking out, as an example?

I saw a team to day that was impressive because cause of hustle and the play of their big men underneath. They make blocks, they make moves with the ball in hand underneath the basket. They rebound really good and support each other. This team name was; VILLANOVA.

I read an article awhile back about former assistant coach John Bostick. Bostick came to Alabama as an assistant for CM Newton and stayed for 13 years including several years on Wimp's staff. His responsibility was to coach big men and the freshman team. The first half of every practice he would take the big men to their own goal and practice fundamentals like boxing out, free throw rebounding, footwork and something I found very interesting... catching a simple pass. They said Leon Douglas could not catch a pass to save his life and they worked on it every day. He coached Wendell Hudson, Douglas, Reggie King, Eddie Phillips and others. We always had dominate big guys. Our big guys do not rebound well, have stone hands and have poor fundamental skills.

We need a guy like John Bostick. We had freshmen teams back then but I remember huge improvements between their sophomore and junior seasons. That is call developing players.

During that same time we had a true point guard. Our PG's lead the league in assists every year. They were good scorers but looked to pass first. In the closing minutes of a game they were deadly free throw shooters.

CM Newton and Wimp seemed to clone these guys and have another one ready as soon as one graduated. That is coaching.

Outstanding information and you nailed it perfectly. You're right, we had an endless supply of big men to play under the basket and rebound and score during those years. Thanks for posting the info about Bostick.

I think LR just lost his confidence in shooting this year.  I am glad to see him coming back.  Also, I would love to see Bama rec the ball and shoot not always look for the drive first.  Also pull up jumpers on those drives could be effective.
