I have some fond memories of "The Joe" when I played summer ball there in the early 70's. It's sad to see it come down but I think it is  much needed to get the baseball program back to where it needs to be.

Work is underway on the long-anticipated renovation of Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

I wonder how the attendance will be without the students around? Personally, I like it since I live in the Bham area.

Renovation of The Joe is long over do. I think they made a good decision to rebuilt in the original location rather than built on the outer edge of campus. I like the location by Coleman.

It will be a disadvantage playing home games away from campus but the Hoover Met is a beautiful facility. Rumors are they will move the fence in to normal college depth for next year since the primary use for the facility is high school and SEC Tournament. I think attendance will be good especially if our team continues to improve. There are a lot of Bama fans in B'ham.

MD, maybe I will see you at a game next year.

My concern is that the team will crater next year due to the lack of hitting and I just don't know if we have the right coach. He is definitely on the hot seat next year.

You need to give these young kids a chance. We have recruited some studs in the last two classes.

Our hitting improved this year. We lost just as much last year as we lost this year.

2014   .275 BA    .386 SLG  (BA 6th SEC, SLG 4th SEC)
2013   .259        .344
2012   .259        .347

We have 5 of 8 starting position players returning. We have a strong and deep pitching staff. I know many posters on here disagree but I think our program is moving in a positive direction.

The pitching is solid, but the timely hitting is pathetic.

This may be the earliest I have ever seen someone give up on a team. The freshman have not reported yet and the season is still 8 months away.

I don't understand why people knock posters who state FACTS. Tide hitting was atrocious, especially in the clutch. Plus, Gaspard has not performed well with a losing record in SEC play. That's a fact, not an opinion. Why do we expect a different result after 5 years as Head Coach? I guess he will suddenly learn how to coach and develop hitters.

Bama faces the same problems that all college teams do. Attrition, mostly due to the draft. This means that recruits will have to fill those positions. Admit it or not, Gaspard can recruit.
He is young and is still learning how to coach. Nobody was more disappointed than I was at the way we finished the season this year, but I don't think it's time to give up on him. Our program does not have the notoriety to reel in a big time coach. IMO, he needs to grow with our program. In the long run, I think he will become a good coach.

That's the same rationale folks had for keeping Gottfried for 10 years.
