Battle certainly has swung for the fence.  Let's hope this is a Home Run.

Until proven otherwise, I'll maintain that we whiffed on Rich Rod and ended up with Saban, once again.

Mal told us the story of the recruitment of Rich Rod  at a REC meeting and Bama did not whiff on that deal. I have read where other folks say the same thing. Mal went to New York for a meeting with Rich Rod's agent and they discussed the possible hiring of Rich Rod and when the meeting was ovewr Mal asked his agent to not say a word to anyone about their discussion and the agent agreed. Mal said he went back to his hotel later and turned on the tv, I think he said ESPN, when he arrived and they were boadly broadcasting that Bama would be hiring Rich Rod. Mal said he was so mad that he never met with Rich Rod's agent again, the deal was over and Bama moved on.

Thanks for the clarification, Jamos.
Your inside info certainly keeps us honest.

Finebaum take on Johnson hiring.

Quote
Two of the primary question marks surrounding Johnson are that he has never coached in college and that he has been out of coaching for more than two years.

"One of the only knocks on him is he hasn't coached in three years," Finebaum said. "Anthony Grant hasn't really coached much in the last three years either."

Right now, after sitting back for a bit and thinking, I have to be positive about CAJ. I believe if we back him from step one as we did CNS when he came, we may have similar results in Basketball also. Jumping around and guessing is no good really, the thing is to sit back and watch all the good assistant coaches who are gonna want to jump on board because of it being Alabama. I see us already winning our first game of the season next year. RTR!

After watching this video, I can't imagine that there is a top high school BB recruit that would not want to sit down and talk to AJ, or play for him.  He is one of the few people that I have listened to that makes NBA analysis interesting.  Great knowledge, very articulate, very disarming with that grin, and he has "Been There, Done That" when it relates to the NBA.  And that is where the high profile recruits dream of being.  This is a great recruiting video, and it is out there right now doing its job.

I disagree respectfully Preacher.  I don't think there are many players coming out of high school or assistant coaches that want to move to Tuscaloosa just "because of it being Alabama."  I could be wrong though...

Hey NALT, thanks for your perspective. You could be right, I sometimes get to high on Alabama because i love this state and I love the school that represents this state. That, makes it easy for me to get to over joyed on being here.

As Crimson13 has shown here, I agree he is a very enticing man without even knowing it. OR, maybe he does. Again I say, we shall see. Gosh i love this. RTR!

I had never heard of him before we hired him, so I went out and did a little research.  I watched several youtube videos of him last night, including this one.  I must say that after my research I am very excited to have him as our coach and I can't wait to see what happens with the basketball program.  All coaching hires are a gamble, but I think we have stacked the odds in our favor with this hire.  Get your season tickets now, they may be hard to come by in a few years.

Laughing

How about "wisely had a change of heart?"   Grin

I still think Johnson will prove to be a better coach than Bama would have gotten with Marshall.   Cool

Can you imagine the excitement he could generate in recruiting?  Instead of a guy who won one NCAA Tournament game (OK, so it was Duke), here's a guy who played 16 years in the NBA and has the game-winning shot and championship ring to prove it, has been an NBA coach of the year and coached an NBA team to repeat playoff berths.  I'm with ricky on this one, kids will be lining up to play for Bama.

Looks like Johnson is immediately going to work to get Dazon Ingram back.  Ingram decommitted after Grant was fired.

They released a statement that agreement had been signed right before the championship game.  Waiting until after the game for the press conference -- no point in getting swallowed up by Tournament coverage.

TV says Johnson signed for 6 years & $17 million. Around $2.8 mil a year.
