The decision to come to Alabama was easy for transfer WR Richard Mullaney
Richard Mullaney, the Oregon State transfer, didn't have to think hard when Alabama became a serious option. He's trying to bring leadership and poise to a young receiving corps.

"Obviously I knew coach (Lane) Kiffin, he was over at (USC), and talked to him and they needed a veteran guy in the receiver group," Mullaney said. "They had a bunch of guys with skill and talent, but they needed a guy to come in, help out and guide them through it."

Saban praised the Oregon State transfer throughout fall camp for the attributes he brought to the team, particularly the guidance he could provide to young stars like Robert Foster and Calvin Ridley. During one series in Saturday's win, Mullaney helped Foster diagnose Wisconsin's coverage scheme. That Mullaney used his smarts to help another player is a big reason Saban wanted him in Tuscaloosa.

"He's got great hands, very smart player, very instinctive, knows how to get open and is especially effective in the slot," Saban said before the season started.

Mullaney said he's already built up a good relationship with quarterback Jake Coker. Alabama figures to spread the ball around a lot this year with no Amari Cooper vacuuming up all the targets, but Mullaney should be one of the most reliable options out of the group....

Glad to have him at Bama. He apparently brings a wealth of knowledge with him.
