Excellent and thorough report, hscoach.
You stressed the most salient points: our QB and DBs grew up during the game, and the DEFENSE is for real.
We'll find out about maturity as a team this week. Hopefully we'll play strong back-to-back games; hard to do. Also hope we see no misbehavior among the young ones this week.
Question: Did you watch OJ Howard's routes to see if he's getting separation? Seems he is not, except for the sidelines pass that was overthrown. He has such speed, and is often covered by a LB or safety; should have better separation.
Thanks again. Let's all give e-creds for these reports!
To answer your question about Howard. He was away from the calls most of the day. He ran a deep crossing route and was covered by the safety once and probably could have shut it down a little instead of running deep. I couldn't see if he was open or not on another play. He was covered when he was targeted and Coker should not have even thrown at him. On the overthrow he was open, just a bad throw. He was used in max protection a lot of the night. It looked like he did get separation on the play where the ball was going to DH but again he was on the back side. DH had a lot of room if the pass had not been batted down.
A couple of other notes:
Mitchell had 2 catches in the first quarter and 1 in the third. The one in the third was where it looked like Mitchell was running an out and adjusted to an overthrow.
One the first play where MH was beaten he did exactly what he was suppose to in the catch up phase. He turned and ran to the rec and didn't check back for the ball.
I knew they flipped Jones and put him on Mitchell, but didn't realize it happened before the end of the first quarter.
UG fans started a max exodus with 10:05 left in the 3rd quarter.
