"This was a great team win, and when I say 'team,' I'm talking about the players, the coaches, the fans and all the people in the organization that contributed to this win," Saban said. "Our fans provided a great atmosphere that affected their offense."
As if the Crimson Tide's defense needed any help.
Tailback Trent Richardson re-established himself as a Heisman candidate with 126 rushing yards and a 61-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown.
Quarterback A.J. McCarron was efficient - and sometimes outstanding - while demonstrating that he can effectively manage the offense much like Greg McElroy did two years ago.
Wide receiver Marquis Maze scored on a winding 83-yard punt return.
But make no mistake - and Alabama forced Arkansas into several - the Tide's defense is the primary reason this team looks so similar to the '09 champions. Indeed, this Crimson Tide defense appears even more ornery and intimidating than that season's unit, which was second in the country in points and yards allowed.
