BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- With a Saturday off at Florida State, head coach Jimbo Fisher knows what he'll be doing: Watching a little football between longtime friends and rivals.
"Alabama is playing so well, right now, defensively," he said, alluding to the SEC's top matchup of the week. "Florida's got a lot of good players. It's going to be a heck of a ballgame."
Fisher was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at LSU from 2000 to 2006. Nick Saban was the boss. And for four of those seasons, Will Muschamp was an assistant, coaching linebackers and, for three seasons, serving as Saban's defensive coordinator. Now Muschamp is the rookie head coach at No. 12 Florida.
"I think you have two coaches who know how the other thinks," he said in Birmingham Monday at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club.
Could Saban, the mentor, have the edge?
"Experience helps," Fisher said, grinning. "And so does having the best players. Will has enough experience. We'll see."
