It's the Xs and Os matchup of Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis against Alabama's Saban-influenced defense.

It's Weis working his pre-arranged play script, pounding the running game, mixing in a draw or screen, taking an occasional shot downfield, looking for a weakness.

It's Saban and his right-hand man, defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, orchestrating a disciplined, stout unit that expertly disguises pass coverages and rarely blows an assignment.

Alabama's defense is ranked second nationally (allowing just 184 yards per game) after finishing with season-ending defensive marks that were fifth, second and third in the nation the previous three years.

"They're very solid from the front end to the back end,'' Muschamp said. "As much as anything, they're in the fifth year of that system.''

At Florida, the Gators are in the first year of Weis' offensive system. So far, so good. Florida leads the SEC in total offense (461.8 yards per game) and rushing offense (259).

Weis has a problem. John Brantley is no Tom Brady.

I'm getting a little bored. Here we go again. Bama takes away the rush, and a one dimensional UF cannot compete.

Quote
"It's great having them because they can turn a 2-yard pass into a 50-yard gain,'' Brantley said. "We know how good that Alabama defense is. When the opportunity is there to make a play, you've got to make it. There's very little room for error. At the same time, Coach Weis knows how to put pressure on a defense. He knows what he's doing.''

Is Muschamp trying to convince us-- or himself?

Well I think this is going to be a real battle. I know Fla. has play actually one team with any stength of schedule and that is Vandy. Off.-Co. CCWeis is good but I feel his 2 rBs will get their chance but this is a 60 min. game. WE have to play every play like it is the last play of our life. I still think Shelley wins it with 3 sec. on the clock. RTR!

Mushie clearly thinks his O can get the job done.  Worry about their speed but if we can prevent big plays from Rainey/Demps, I don't think Brantley can beat us with his arm.

But that presumes AJ doesn't make mistakes and does make a few big plays.  It's that last part that worries me.  I don't want this game to come down to our needing a late field goal to win.

I maybe wrong, but I think Alabama goes down to the swamp and kills the gators.

Charlie hasn't yet had to deal with an SEC defense with the speed and athleticism that Bama has.
