I'd suggest a top 15 maybe.  And yes, I like the idea of having to have a certain e-cred level.  Something small enough that any semi-regular contributor could still vote though (50?).

If you have to have a few e-creds to vote it would keep lurkers from coming on board just to screw up the poll.

Maybe we lower it to 35.  The first time you post you get +25 if you are not a spammer.  By the time you get 10 more it is pretty safe to say that you are not just here to cause trouble.

earned. 

I gave you another one.  Anybody can give you one for any reason, but then they have to wait 15 minutes to give you another one.  I probably give out more for humor than anything, but I also give them out for just about anything that I think makes the site better.  The quickest way to rack up is to make the home page.  You automatically get +5 any time a mod puts one of your posts on the front page.  Every post you make has the potential to make the front page, so the more you post the more chances you will have.  And if it was something you wrote originally (as opposed to an article link with some quotes) I come back through and give another +10 as a bonus for original content.  You can also get some for making the top 5 in the Weekly Pickem contest or guessing the closest score in the Pick the Score contest.

We need to have a deadline for entering your votes.  I want to give people time to come by and vote, but I don't want it to be so long that people lose interest in the results by the time we are done.  What do you guys think about having the deadline on Sundays at midnight?  Is that long enough?  I figure most of the people who vote will be by here on Sunday anyway.

Another good way to get E-Creds is to give some out yourself.  Most people will remember and return the favor the next time they see you do something good.  If you don't know how, all you have to do is click on Applaud underneath someone's E-Cred total just under their screen name to the left of the post.  This will increase their count by 1.  The bravo smiley does not actually award an E-Cred, it is just a smiley that we use when we tell somebody that we gave them an E-Cred.
