What caught my eye was this was Notre Dame's iconic football player "Rudy's" high school.

Another thing that caught my attention: The recruit TY Isaac was in attendance at this football banquent where Notre Dame's coach Kelly gave a speech.

Quote

By ERIC HANSEN

South Bend Tribune Staff Writer

10:15 p.m. EST, December 8, 2011
CHICAGO — It didn’t matter to Ty Isaac that Brian Kelly showed up
Wednesday night for his speech at Galleria Marchetti somewhere between
the Chicken Vesuvio and the vanilla ice cream.

The view through the lens one of the nation’s top junior running backs
skipped petty details and was all about the wide-angle vision of where
the Notre Dame football program is headed — warts, growing pains,
progress and all.

“I mean, the Notre Dame coaches tell me that they’re right on track,
and I believe it,”
said Isaac, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder at Joliet
(Ill.) Catholic High School.

Yes, it’s the same school that produced former Irish linebacker Mike
Goolsby, former Chicago Bears and Irish standout offensive lineman Tom
Thayer, and walk-on icon Rudy
.

“I know it’s a tough game,” Isaac continued, “and they’re doing what
they can. I understand that it takes some time, but what I see is
they’ve got a lot of good young guys that I believe are going to be
really good in the future.”

Kelly spoke about the future in the vaguest of terms — on purpose —
during his eight-minute, 10-second oratory at the NCSA/Tom Lemming
All-Area Football Banquet in downtown Chicago.

 Isaac, who ran for 515
yards and six touchdowns in a 70-45 loss to defending champ Montini
Catholic in the Illinois Class 5A state title tilt, was one of the
players being honored at the affair.

“I’d love to get into a lot of other particulars,” Kelly said in his
closing, “but the NCAA’s rules and regulations prohibit me from
talking any further about some of the important things that get me
fired up.”

That kid ran for 515 yds and 6 TDs? How is that possible? Were they playing 7 on 7? Good grief.

Must have had an extra good night rushing the football. That was in a lossing effort.

70-45!

No defense.

515 yards, Montee Ball type numbers.

Talking about those numbers: Tony Dixon, a former Kentucky RB who played his high school ball at Parrish High in Walker County, once had a game where he ran for 531 yards and scored 8 TDs. He was 1A back of the year that year and had somewhere around 2,100 yards rushing that season. Unfortunately, the talent did not translate to SEC football.

I worked on a coal mine up there near the Parrish Tornados high school in Walker county. Assembled an 4160 VAC electric 70 cubic yard Buryrus Erie walking dragline, about 30 years ago.
