1.   Congratulations to Robert Griffin III for winning the Heisman! I was sorry that Trent didn’t win but RGIII is a truly spectacular college player.  TR and Andrew Luck were both hurt by not playing the final Saturday but the truth is neither TR nor AL had a big “Heisman moment” that might have won the trophy.  And Bama’s strategy of using multiple backs kept TR’s overall numbers down. Losing won’t affect TR’s bank account much, he is still going to get big bucks after the NFL draft.

2.   It is true that the Heisman is just a popularity contest but I don’t know how you change that.  Too many teams, too many offensive styles, and too much geography for a truly objective measure. It’s better now than in the “old” days before multiple TV games. In those days your Heisman chances depended largely on how good your pre-season and in-season publicity campaign was.  Bama never gave anyone the big PR treatment and that’s a big reason Bama only has one Heisman winner.

3.   Jim McElwain to Colorado State and Gus Malzahn to Arkansas State. If you are keeping score that is a win for McElwain! Congrats to him and I hope he gets CSU back to where they were under Sonny Lubick. Ft. Collins is a great location plus CSU has great helmets for those who are fashion conscious.

4.   Finished decorating my Christmas tree and I guess I am just lucky, but Kupkake is able to come in after I have worked for hours and point out the mistakes I made. I guess it is just a gift!

5.   The NFL’s one game suspension of James Harrison for his hit on Colt McCoy is a harbinger of things to come. The NFL is scared that someone is going to be killed during a game and bring on all sorts of government regulation. So the NFL is going to be taking more and more steps to make the game safer. The colleges will, of course, follow the NFL lead. We had better enjoy this hardnosed football while we can!

6.   The coaching carousel is winding down with only a few big jobs left, the biggest probably Penn State. So far, Kirby Smart hasn’t made the jump and I think some school is missing a bet.  But it continues a trend.  Although the SEC will claim its 6th BCS Championship this year, schools are hiring offensive types instead of going for defense.  I’m not the smartest guy in the world but I think , if I had a vacancy say in the PAC-12, I would go for a defensive guy.  Who knows, you might win a championship.

Hey KKP, my wife allowed my 4-year-old to put ornaments anywhere he wanted on the tree. "It doesn't matter. I don't want him to think he was doing something wrong if I move them," says she. Of course, this logic didn't follow when I put ornaments up. "Put more around back .... I don't like that one there ...."

We have an agreement here.  I put the tree in the stand and then put the lights however I want, and they put the ornaments however they want.

I get the Christmas stuff down from the attic and put the tree in the stand. My wife and girls do everything else inside. I go outside and do that stuff. Once they are finished inside they come out and tell me what I did wrong.  Sad

At least the "Feats of Strength" are more fun with the LF.  You probably even let her pen you some years.
