TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - William Vlachos was big as a baby. Just don't say he was a big baby.

Alabama's 6-foot-1, 294-pound senior center was born in Greece and lived in his father's homeland until he was 8 months old.

"I'm definitely bigger than the Greek standards, because Greeks aren't typically very large people," said Vlachos, whose maternal grandfather was an Auburn football player.

"When I was born, they had a row of about 12 babies. I was twice as big as any of them. All of the doctors were in shock as to how big this kid was when he was born. I was about 9½ pounds."

When we recruited him, I had my questions about whether he was big enough to do the job," Saban said. "He has proven me wrong however many games he's played here and ever since he's been here.
