I flew from Houston to Jackson to road trip to NOLA with my sisters and nephew. It's a huge convoluted story but it was $55 round trip for the flight and much easier than flying directly to New Orleans because of the car rental situation, flight prices, and because of the aiport we live by.
ANYWAY, I get on the plane in Houston and this lady sits down and is panicking calling folks saying she actually made the flight. She was coming from Dallas but her plane was delayed but our plane (HOU to JAN) was delayed as well so she called and said she was going to be at the airport earlier than expected. She asked me if it was terrible switching gears on her hosts like that and I told her I'd want to be near family as soon as possible and I wouldn't mind them calling me to come early. She was absolutely dressed to the 9's and was a very wealthy lady. I asked her if they lived in Meridian because she said it was an hour and a half or so from the Jackson airport. She said the family was in Grenada and she was also visiting family in Tuscaloosa. Her husband had died and she said the 4 walls were closing in. I told her it would be a great to go antiquing and see family. Well that started it off and we talked for the whole plain ride about how we love buying junk, love sewing, love old stuff, pick stuff up off the side of the road and refinish it, etc etc etc. Even though she was really wealthy she was just so unpretentious and a kindred spirit. LOVED HER!
We get off the plane and a security guard looks at my bama shirt says "Are you ready?" I said "I AM ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!". She looks back and said "oh, I didn't see you had an Alabama shirt. My brother-in-law is the chancellor there.
I said "well I hope he's in a good mood when you get there after this game" She said "well I didn't think about that part of it...I hope Alabama wins but I don't watch football." I said "well if he's the chancellor I guess he has more important things to worry about than the football team." She looks back and says "well I don't know about that."
