Josh Chapman had his hands full with a Florida offensive linemen as he pursued John Brantley, the Gators' pocket-passing quarterback.

The play in the Swamp on Oct. 1 ended like many others in Chapman's Crimson Tide career with one significant difference: days later during an MRI, he learned he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee.

"Normally I can deal with pain pretty well, but after three days I needed an MRI," Chapman said. "Dr. (Lyle) Cain said he's never seen a guy that can have a torn ACL and still stay that stable."

Chapman said he made the choice to finish the season, and to put off surgery. More than three months after the injury, he underwent the procedure Tuesday and is rehabilitating at Alabama.

Holy crap. Big ups to Josh for playing through the pain, but I hope it didn't cause him in permanent problems. Anybody with a medical degree out there know if such could happen?

This is the same injury than Lane Bearden had about 10 years ago.

Limped onto the field to punt, then limped off.

Both are very tough hombres

How in the world did he play the toughest position in football with a torn ACL & meniscus? The pain would have been incredible and I don't remember seeing him even limp on the field once. This goes right up there in Crimson Lore with wide receiver Paul Bryant playing against Tennessee with a broken leg.

Extremely tough.   Possibly even more impressive is his dedication to his teammates and the University.  By delaying the surgery until January, he won't be able to do anything but bench and interview at the combines.  It will probably cost him an entire round (or more) in the draft and a million or two in the bank on his first contract.  What an unselfish decision!
