The glory will go to Tony Mitchell and Andrew Steele.  They made the clutch shots late to lift Alabama to a 69-67 double-overtime victory over Ole Miss on Saturday night.

But take away a couple of takeaways by sophomore point guard Trevor Releford and the Crimson Tide (15-7, 4-4 in the SEC) might have left Coleman Coliseum with its fifth loss in its past six games.

"He made a play when his team needed it," Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said...

If I had to pick the one thing that got Bama the win last night , it would the the technical fouled called on CAG. From that point on, Bama played a much more aggresive game which was ugly but effective.

T. Lacy is nursing a tender left knee, I saw him with the trainer before the game being evaluated to see if he would play or not, I think it affected him on defense. Randolph has got to start taking the open shots when given. There are so many times with 10-12 secs on the play clock and he gets the chance to shoot but passes it off instead which usually ends up with a brick being thrown up there by someone before the clock expires.

The younger ones are playing hard but sometimes not playing smart. Roll Tide!!  Wink

I thought Hankerson came in and gave us a spark last night. He made a couple of shots and plays really hard.

Ole Miss and Alabama have similar talent and play similar defense.  The last SEC game (rematch) may decide which one gets the NCAA bid.

I thought so too. It really puzzles me as to how poor our outside shooting is. Randolph couldn't hit the Gulf of Mexico from the Pensacola pier. If we're going to win, that has to change, because as you pointed out, the zones will continually be stacked down low. The only way to beat those zones is by hitting the perimeter shots.

I think Hankerson is the most underrated player on the team.

What about this:

sophomore guard Charles Hankerson, who had knee surgery on Monday, also came off the bench to score 10 points.

Trevor's older brother at Kansas is known as a great defensive player.  I'm happy to see Trevor exhibit some of the same qualities, and he has improved his shooting this year as well.  If he continues to improve his game, Trevor will make a big impact on the national stage in the next few years

And I agree with the story, without those key defensive plays Bama loses this game.

Yes, it was good to see the players enjoying the game at the end.  I haven't seen them smile like that in a while.

That was a quick technical.  Grant must have dropped a curse bomb.

He was right, the foul call was missed, but I think Grant needs to learn to curb his anger at times.  He is still a young coach and therefore does not get the same benefit older coaches may get when questioning a ref's call.

I didn't notice an immediate impact from the call, other than Ole Miss getting ahead, but Bama did fight back; it was a back and forth game in the second half anyway.
