Bryant help usher CFB into the modern age of TV. Raised the bar so to speak so other SEC schools and NCC schools had to step up.

CPBB helped turned it into the grand stage it is today.

what an idiot.  I don't think they can really be compared but one thing Saban will never have is the looooong history with the university.  Alabama fans knew Bear's heart was in Tuscaloosa with "mama".  Saban is more business-like but I really do believe between the tornados, Nick's kids doing so well compared to other places, and just because we are so darn loveable  Kiss that he has developed a soft spot for Alabama.  I think he will be loyal to us, but nobody will ever have that love and loyalty for Alabama like Bear Bryant.  That's part of the love for Coach Bryant.

Nick Saban is a great coach and I would not trade him for any coach in the country. His first 5 years at Alabama has been outstanding. If he keeps up this pace for several more years he may be remembered as an equal to Coach Bryant. If Saban retired today would he be remembered like Coach Bryant in 25 years, I don't think so. At this point his legacy is more like Coach Stallings than than The Bear.

Agree to a point. As much as I like CGS, I think CNS has surpassed him. CGS had 70 wins to 16 losses and a NC when he retired. After just five years, CNS has 55 wins against 12 losses and 2 NC. My guess is CNS will surpass CGS about midway through 2013.

CPBB's ability as Bama's coach was proven over time.  Many years.  CNS has quite a way to go to demonstrate his 'staying power' as a winner -- though I have no doubt he can do that.  I hope (and think) he will stay at Bama for years 'cause that's the only way he can leave a legacy. And I think he wants to leave a legacy.

There are similarities.  CPPB was a Bama alum who came 'home' in 1958 and we won NC's in '61, '64 and '65. (I remember them well!!)  CNS with two NC's in the last three years is on pace to equal or surpass that.  And if he does, and if he stays, then this discussion will get interesting.
