The wait was long and never rewarded for a number of draft-eligible former Alabama players Saturday, but most found a way to end the day on a high note.

According to various, unofficial reports across the Internet, at least seven former Crimson Tide players signed free agent deals with NFL teams late Saturday. Tack on the eight players who heard their names called during this weekend's draft, and that's a whopping 15 former Alabama players who will have a shot to make an NFL squad for the 2012 season...

-- Center William Vlachos, a three-year starter at Alabama, has signed with the Tennessee Titans, according to The Tennessean. So, too, is former Alabama linebacker Alex Watkins.

Of course you should be pulling for all of them equally, like not showing favorites among your children, but I'd really like to see these guys do especially well.

I posted once before that Vlachos was the best interview on the team. He gave a condescending look to the reporters but never came off like a smart azz in doing it. Watkins has been through a lot w/o a whole bunch of payout. RTR to all of 'em but especially my two.

I'm starting to lean toward the Browns and the Ravens myself.

I have found myself liking the Ravens more over time, especially since Ray Lewis learned that the thug life ain't the way to go and he has become a better citizen. Plus, I would not mind seeing the Browns playing better and maybe even going to the Super Bowl. They have been down for at least 15 or 20 years and they need a break. Having Trent doesn't hurt.
