NEW YORK — Spotting the outsiders was a cinch among the lunchtime crowd at Baruch College on Monday afternoon.
Dressed in crimson sweats, headphones over ears, the Alabama basketball team traversed and the bustling midtown Manhattan crowd took notice. Then, down four flights of stairs, the Crimson Tide found a small underground gym where the real work began.
Just 24 hours before meeting one the nation’s most explosive offenses, coach Anthony Grant had one final opportunity to install the game plan. By 8:30 p.m. today, his team will be six avenues over and nine streets uptown at the sport’s most recognizable address.
The NIT semifinal meeting with Colorado pits the 11th-best scoring offense (80.1 points per game) against the Tide’s eighth-ranked scoring defense (59.2 ppg)...
