Wisconsin is trying to make it look like they went after the Mighty Tide and we were afraid to play them. My guess is CNS wants to play some other conferences as well as the Big 10. We just played a series with Penn St. We have a game this year with Michigan and we have a series scheduled with Mich St. in a few years. Not to mention we only want marquee oppontents. Wisconsin has a long way to go to join the elite group in their own conference much less the nation. I rate then behind Mich, Ohio St, Neb, Penn St and Mich St in the Big 10.

Quote
According to Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, Alabama was offered opportunities for both a one-time neutral site game with the Badgers and a home-and-home series and the Tide declined both offers. The talks were orchestrated by ESPN, according to the report, and was one of several discussions started by Wisconsin in an attempt to improve their out of conference scheduling in an effort to increase the Badgers' national reputation in the new four-team playoff era.

Just as you said, they need us; we don't need them.  If we play a team from the Big 10 (whatever), I'd rather play OSU, Michigan (  Shocked ), or Nebraska instead.  And I agree, make it a neutral site.

Wisconsin should get those Pasadena teams. They could help them I guess. Not sure though. RTR!

I guess everyone has forgotten that Saban said he would play anyone, anywhere. What happened to that statement? Plus, Wisconsin won the Big 10 in 2010 & 2011 and the coach is 60-19 over the past 6 years. You guys are talking like Wisconsin is Indiana. With Ohio State damaged by Tressel and Michigan State still trying to prove they are for real, Wisconsin and Michigan are the big boys of the Big 10. I think this would be another wonderful opportunity for the SEC to show how overrated the Big Ten really is. I wish I knew what dates were discussed, that could explain a lot. It might show us playing 2 tough non-con teams the same year, or it might be so far down the road that Saban did not want to commit to something 5 to 7 years from now.

The story has been edited to indicate that Wisconsin objected to the neutral site option, not Alabama.

I would rather wait for CNS to explain why Bama declined on the offer before I pass judgement on the decision. Wink

We already have at least one big non-SEC game every year until about 2018. Wisconsin wanted a home & home. Keep in mind the SEC is most likely going to a 9 game SEC in a few years. We already have games scheduled with Michigan, Va Tech, West Virgingia, and (2) with Michigan State. There are other games being discussed too.

MD, Wisconsin has done well for the Big 10 recently but IMO they still have not reached the status of even a down Nebraska. I also think we need to look at Big 12 and PAC 12 teams.

I was  thinking Saban might be looking for someone like Texas, Oklahoma, USC, or someone similar down the road. Being booked up till 2018 might be the reason for declining more games at this time, though. Plus, the thought of a 9 conference game schedule might have been a factor.

I agree that this game would do more for Wisconsin than it would for Bama.  Bama doesn't recruit in Wisconsin.  And Bama has scheduled games against other marquee Big10 teams.  With its power running game, Wisconsin would be an easy win for Bama -- our D is designed to stop the run.  And Saban did recently say that he would prefer to play more SEC games than add non-conference matchups (alluding to WV and VaTech, whom we play in Atlanta where Bama does recruit, and recruit well).

Funny stuff, we don't need no stinking badgers!

Man I have seen this stuff so much. Bleacher Report got me upset this morning  by posting this again. I just can't see us being afraid of playing anyone. I always hope we win by 1 point but now i hope we beat Michigan by 41 points. RTR!
