Quote
Things were going to be so simple.

Even though we don't have a four-team college football playoff for a couple of years, the 2012 season seemed perfectly aligned for a cut-and-dried Final Four with the national semifinals set for Nov. 3 - Alabama at LSU, Oregon at USC. Everyone else would be on the outside looking in.

College football simplicity in September is like an orchid in Antarctica. It may look lovely but it won't last long. Stanford beats Southern Cal (again) and the entire apple cart is upset.

Chaos may not rule once more, but it is having the crown and scepter polished. Suddenly, the Florida State-Clemson winner or the victor in the Oklahoma-Texas game or (gasp!) Notre Dame may see an opportunity to get into the mix.

That actually may be good for college football. Chaos has its charms. And there is also a possible outcome that most of America fears far more than any chaos...

There may be some truth that the SEC is down this year, especially in the west.  Beyond Bama and LSU, the third best team in the west is either MSU or TAM.  Auburn, Arky and Ole Miss aren't that competitive right now, although Ole Miss is improved from last year.

I think the east is getting stronger, with Florida and TN improving, and Vandy still playing tough, in addition to recent east champions USCe and Georgia.  Missouri is decent too, as shown by its victory over Arizona State, although it needs more depth to keep from fading in the 4th quarter, and later in the season.  Really, the only weak link in the east is KY.

I don't think the SEC is down significantly.  Sure, Arky is worse.

But (as you said), MSU and Ole Miss are MUCH better, LSU and Bama are the best in the nation, and the Aubs are the same.  That's not down.

The east is better.  It's still early, but I don't buy this "SEC is down" stuff.

Take Oregon, USC, or any other team in the country and run them through the week-in and week-out physical beatings of SEC competition and they'll soon be lost in the sea of college football's middle and lower tier teams.

I also concur. I think best NCG we will see is Alabama visiting LSU this year. Who comes at the end of the year, whatever. We at Alabama have a head coach who has taught us to believe one thing for sure, one game at a time. Great job as always Cecil. RTR!
