No. 4 Gymnastics Hosts No. 6 UCLA Friday in Coleman Coliseum

Gmynastics became an NCAA Divison 1 sport in 1982. Since that time only four teams Utah, Georgia , UCLA and Alabama have won championships. UCLA and Alabama have won the last three with UCLA winning in 2010 and Bama in 2011 and 2012. This should be a good meet that will help both teams prepare for the championship.

Great competition is nothing new to No. 4 ranked Alabama gymnastics, especially within the confines of Coleman Coliseum, but the two-time defending champions will engage in a clash of the titans this Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the No. 6 ranked UCLA Bruins come to town.

"There are 12 national championships between the two teams," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "It's going to be an incredible meet. They're hosting the NCAA Championships this year and they're on fire right now getting ready for that meet. Competing against teams like UCLA is why we won't be looking over shoulder when the postseason rolls around."

No. 4 Gymnastics Beats No. 6 UCLA, 197.075-196.375

I am sure CSP is pleased with the third score in a row over the 197.0 mark. UCLA is a very good team. We will see them again when they host the NCAA Chapionship.

In a battle of NCAA Champions, the Alabama gymnastics team came out on top against the UCLA Bruins Friday night, 197.075-196.375 in front of 11,775 fans in Coleman Coliseum.

"This was a big competition for us for a lot of different reasons," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "I felt like our team needed to cross over that 197-threshold and now this is our third meet in a row that we've done that."

Junior Kim Jacob won her fifth all-around title of the season, tying her career-high of 39.425. It was Alabama's first non-conference meet of the season and eighth meet of the season. It was UA's third consecutive 197-plus score.

Roll Tide!  I'm guessing the judging was fairly tough with such a low score by the Bruins.
