Alabama drops game one on Friday night 2-1 in 13 innings.

Game 2 at 2:05 today.

Quote
Stephen F. Austin’s Ricardo Sanchez sacrifice fly in the top of the 13th inning lifted the Lumberjacks to a 2-1 victory over the No. 21 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday night from Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Alabama (2-2) and Stephen F. Austin (3-2) will play game two of the series on Saturday, with first pitch slated for 2:05 p.m.

“Stephen F. Austin pitched extremely well and they competed really hard tonight,” Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard said. “On our end, we weren’t very sharp, even if it was a 2-1 game. We got out of some jams. We had a lot of opportunities offensively. We had opportunities in the ninth and 10th innings, but we weren’t able to win the game.”

Looks like our hopes of having a better hitting team is in danger.

Only 3 players had hits.  2 players had 8 of our 9 hits.

Not gona win many ball games with only one third of the batting order contributing.

On the other hand the pitching staff is doing their job.

Going into the year we knew our strengths were pitching and defense. I hope the offense comes around with the warmer weather.

Alabama scores 3 runs in B5 to increase their lead to 5-0.

Justin Kamplain is pitching a nice game. He has gave up 3 hits and no runs through 5 innings. He has 6 K's.

Freshman LF Casey Hughston hit his second HR of the day to make the score 7-0. Good to see some power in the line up.

SFA coming to bat in the 8th.

Sounds like a great game tonight. Always good to see double digits in the hits column, especially when the offense hasn't been dominating to this point.

Game 3

Alabama beat SFA 3-2 in 10 innings. Pinch Hitter Wade Wass got the winning hit with one out scoring Kyle Overstreet from 2nd base. Jon Keller got the win pitching 5 innings giving up 2 hits and 0 runs.

SFA    2 7 1
Bama  3 11 2

Bama wins the series. Our overall record is 4-2. We play Southern Miss in Hattisburg on Wednesday. We stay on the road playing a three game series with Louisiana Lafayette. This will be a tough road trip against two very good teams.

Two series in a row where the baseball team lost the first game and swept the rest. That's a sign of character and I hope this team has it. Congrats!
